Answer:
Perennial rye is probably sold mostly in the northern part of the country. I use the free ship to home option. I am in the south and perennial rye does not like hot dry weather so I enjoy it from early fall to late spring.

I couldn't get it at my local store so I ordered it for delivery. It showed up in a big box on my porch. That's much easier than going to the store!

The local stores in Wilmington, NC do not stock this grass seed. Some stores will order this grass seed for you but will charge you a special order fee. Better to order from the web site. Hope this helps.

I always have some seed from the previous year. As long as you keep it in a cool, DRY place, it should be good the next year.

Grass seeds normally last 1 -2 years but the success rate decline slightly. Your ryegrass blend is probably good and can be sowed successfully this year if you haven't used a preemergent herbicide.

I had some seed left over from the prior year that I kept dry and cool in the garage over the winter. The next spring it did germinate but not as thick as a fresh bag.

While many people plant seed in the Spring, Fall is actually the best time to plant seed. During the Fall months the soil and air are at their most ideal temperatures.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer,
We reached out to MFG for more information and below is their response.
“ Yes, Fairway Supreme can be planted in NY with the hot and cold weather. It does better in sunny to moderately shady areas. Early fall is the best time to plant because the soil is still warm which helps with germination."

At this point in WNY,we are having a severe drought, so lawns are dry and brown, but in years past, once the lawn received enough rain, the grass comes back nicely. It goes dormant during the dry season, and then towards fall, it comes back lush and green almost every time. Very dependable grass seed - Pennington Fairway Supreme.

Answer:
The grass normally goes dormant in the summer after the Bermuda grass starts to grow out. It will return in the early spring. It is normally used with Bermuda grass to keep the weeds from growing during the Bermuda's grass dormant period. It will come back each year because it is a perennial blend and not a annual blend.

" Perennial Ryegrass will act as an annual in Southern areas, and begins to go dormant when daily temperatures are 90 degrees or above. In southern states this product will normally not survive a summer and does require reseeding in the Fall "

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BEST SEED FOR WNY Have used Pennington Fairway Supreme grass seed for several years now, along with treating with a four-step fertilizer process and my lawn looks good (except during this terrible drought we are having this year 2016). It sprouts quickly and holds up well under heavy traffic and usual heat and rough winters. I will use nothing else in my yard. We have been using this for 10+ years. It is the best seed I have ever used. Seeds bare spots well and I used to overseed in the fall and our Spring grass aways looks healthy and green. You can't wrong with Pennington Fairway Supreme! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ryegrass Grass Purchase The package was delivered quickly and very efficient. The content was well protected and as advertised. Thus far, I am completely satisfied with the product and purchase, although I have just began to spread the seed. I would recommend buying this product in comparison to the Annual Rye version. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Buy Planted these seeds during late fall and had a beautiful green lawn this spring especially in places that were barren. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Seeds I have ever bought It is on the expensive side but grows beautiful and strong. I live in the north east and have 2 70 lbs dogs who rip apart my lawn. This has held up the best so far. Worth the money. July 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Need help Will this grass grow in southern Indiana i have tried just about never grass I can buy at Home Depot and have not had much luck getting it to survive last year I overseeded heavily with a blend of seed and again this spring had a nice looking lawn not great and as soon as we got hot weather it's dying yard is full of big dead brown spots I do everything fertilize put lime on use insect killer can anyone give me some info that would help June 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really nice seed I have tried several grass seeds over the years (including other Pennington seed) but this Fairway Supreme blend seems to work the best in my soil in Northern Virginia. It is a dark green lush thick lawn that really crowds out weeds (I set my mower blades to maximum height). I use a three times a season regiment of Scot's fertilizer and Spectracide weed killer spray at least once. I also core aerate the lawn once a year in the fall and lightly de-thatch. My neighbors have switched to this seed and people that walk by comment on how nice our lawns look. I do have a sprinkler system so this helps keep the lawn looking great. For those complaining about the seed, be sure to top dress the seed with a composted soil (like a Vigoro) when you put it down to protect from birds and encourage germination in the soil. May 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick Growth The price per pound on this seed was very good and the blend is what grows best here in the Northwest so I thought I would try it. Over the summer I had stopped watering my backyard and dug up quite a few areas to improve my sprinkler system. The grass I stopped watering was a mess! After I was finished with the sprinklers and once the rain started I aerated and reseeded. In the dug up areas I added extra seed and a thin layer of peat moss. The new areas or areas with peat moss began to show signs of green within a week, very quick. The rest of the yard the results have not been quite as impressive. Even though I tried to work the seed into the old grass I probably should have thatched and then aerated. Not the seeds fault. Where it is growing really well I have not noticed any weeds, just good looking grass as I was expecting. September 15, 2015
