Ridiculous price but for the small area I had to cover, I thought I could splurge a little & maybe get a better result. The bag said it would cover 750 sq ft... yeah, I don't think so! :( My front yard looks like somebody's bald head that failed minoxidil!; a few anemic tufts of grass within much larger bald patches. I did prep before planting & have been watering 2x/day except when we get good rain. I have no idea what the "mulch" & fertilizer included in the bag accomplished but, I am NOT impressed. In fact, those items made it harder to see if the seed was well distributed. It's been about 4 weeks... really hope it gets better. To be fair, it is a shade mix and the trees are just finishing leafing out in this area but, most of that part of the yard is shaded by evergreens anyway. The product does come with some kind of guarantee which I will probably be exploring. I will try to remember to re-post if things even out & improve.

I have struggled with an area of my lawn that would not grow grass because of the shade. What was once just dirt, now soft grass grows. It is a different grass and different texture than other areas but it still looks great. No more dirt!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sheilageorgia Good growth rate
I purchased 3 bags in April when it was on sale at half price. Like it says, after 7-10 days, grass started growing. I used it on some slope, baren spot between sods, and areas where used to have sods.
First I dumped top soil and spread into very thin layer, then spread the seeds on them . Easy than laying sods, saving a lot of work.
But it needs to cover all the area to get high growth rate, until the ground looks all blue, and a bag can only cover 6-6 ft .
The blue stuff seems sticking to where it was, didn't get washed away by rain.
Very good for shade area behind house, where it only has 1 -2 hours of sun.

Grew very quickly, within a week. Nice dense mix and have mowed it twice so far. Found the 25lb bag on sale when I had to go back for more. Much better value than the 6.25lb bag.

We had several spots in our back yard that needed to be reseeded due to items left on the lawn after planter pots were moved to other spots in the yard. The grass came up quickly and has blended in with the rest of the lawn.

Used this in several areas as a test, I started with 5 bags, and so far it's worked good in all the areas. It does require watering every day as the instructions suggest. I also spent a bundle on trimming the two huge trees that were causing all the shade in the area. Ironically, my neighbor hired a guy to spread the same product next door and it's amazing how much difference there is between mine that gets regular watering and his. He stopped watering after the first 10 days and most of his grass is now dead or dying. Keep up the watering once you get it growing. We just now went into a drought period and I'll be a big fan if thes fescue survives the heat.

Tried scotts brand and didn't have much luck, had to apply several times to achieve same results. I love the pennington product, it works well without tons of effort. Last spring we had to reseed the entire backyard ( 3/4 acre) after a new septic field was put in. We tried just plain seed but if we didn't rake it in and cover with soil the birds just ate it and it seemed like we couldn't keep it wet enough.... Then we tried the scotts brand patch with mulch and fertilizer and had to apply it several times, keep it watered and it still came in spotty. Then I applied the pennington and by then I was sort of over the high maintenance and was ready to let the dandelions take over..... but went out to water after about a week of total neglect and to my amazement there were tons of sprouts everywhere! it came up fast and lasted. we now have a full think lawn and I'm very happy, until I have to cut it with the push mower.... time to rethink that purchase.
