Customer Questions & Answers

we had our back yard sodded a few years ago, and we have a low spot area which, when it rains holds a lot of water. would it be best to remove the so

remove the sod then build it up with soil and then add seed or remove the sod then build it up then add the Pennington seed?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, Filling in the low spot and then seeding would be a good idea. If you do decide to repair the patch that is flooding the 1 Step Complete For Sun and Shade Areas would be our recommendation. The 1 Step Complete contains the seed, mulch and fertilizer in one package. It's ideal for repairing and patching, more so than seed alone. It's available in 3lbs. (SKU# 426-870), 6.25lbs. (SKU# 512-915) and 25lbs. (SKU# 513-285, a Home Depot exclusive!) sizes. Thank you

Smart Seed 20 lb. Midwest Mix Grass Seed is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what they claim "grows grass" Bought a bag of Pennington seed during this year’s drought and it did what it said it would. Keep it watered and it grows quickly. I estimate 90% of the seed came up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great I followed the instructions and this stuff germinated in 5 days and within 10 days it was thick. I cultivated the dirt 3 inches and used a new grass fertilizer and watered religiously and used straw.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TERRIBLE RESULTS My test period was 10 days, over one week. I have never written a bad review, but had to on this product. I purchased Scott's Shade and Sun Seed, and planted it tucked into a two inch layer of miracle grow potting soil. Scott's seed amazed all my neighbors, it came up right away, long beautiful grass within one week. I think decided to use Pennington's smart seed on the majority of my lawn, due to the fact that I felt overall, it was a bit cheaper. It is astonishing for me to report, that from my front yard section, where I used Scott's brand, glorious green grass in abundance, the other half of the lawn and backyard have no grass to spotty results at best with no more than a one inch result at best in very nearly bare area, that was the best area tested. I bought three bags of this seed, used more of it than Scott's, carefully applied it, and gave it at least twice as much water, and basically, nothing. I have experience, I prepared the surface, used top quality top soil/potting mix, watered it religiously, watched it like it was a newborn child and this product stinks, I feel cheated, I feel I wish I could post this review around the world, and if they Pennington want proof, as all my neighbors, I would be happy to show photos, Scotts Grass vs Penningtons smart seed bare ground with basically no life coming out at all. So disappointed, depressing, worked for days to get this on a prepared ground perfectly, putting 90% more effort than the Scotts brand and for what? I only wish, and I am not pushing Scott's products, because I am not crazy about all of them, but grass seed, Scott's was the superior brand with superior results.
