In the past I'd used a variety of grass seed suppliers. I even had my yard aqua-seeded once. Basically all those trials were either of limited success or failures.
However, after trying Pennington Sun and Shade I've used nothing else and I never wonder if the seed will germinate. Total success and totally pleased with the results. Now, if I can't find Pennington's, I don't buy anything.

I followed the seeding instructions to the letter: used the proper fertilizer, loosened the soil & watered regularly and well. After 2 weeks there are extremely few blades of grass growing!!!

I used Pennington Smart Seed to fill in a bare spot which was left after I moved a small tree to a new location.
I prepared my soil and generously applied the seed, working it gently into the soil. For mulch, I used grass clippings. I watered daily for the first week+, and the grass quickly germinated.
Overall I was very pleased with the price and performance of this seed. The blend between rye, fescue and bluegrass will assure a good blend into my yard.
If you adequately prepare your soil and keep your seed watered, there is no way this product shouldn't work for you.

Okay. I live in Eastern Washington State and went to Home Depot to pick up one seven-pound bag and one 3lbs bag of seed for about 1600 sq feet. I would seed about 6 lbs of this per 1000 sq feet for a new lawn. I roto-tilled and de-rocked my soil, which was no small job because I had lots of rocks and boulders in the ground when I started. I watered the soil for about a week and re-raked it twice before I planted to let the soil settle after roto-tilling it. I found a really good method to make a leveler drag tool out of 4 2x4s from a guy on YouTube. Boy did that get my ground level easy. Make sure you that the seed is touching the soil (very Key point) and it does germinate a little faster if you rake it in about 1/4 inch only. Than use a tamper or roller to set the seed to the ground and then top with a light dressing of peat moss. Keep the ground damp I watered about 4 times a day. Don't get hung up on it coming up in a week it will take 12-14 days to start showing. I planted in mid April when the temps were between about 40 and 65 degrees. They say that it is bet that the temps be between 45 and 75 for new lawn germination. If you do like this it will be a very good lawn soon as it grows a month or two. I was so glad I picked the Pennington seed because I put so much effort into this lawn and now it will pay off. Do it right with this Pennington Smart Sun Shade North Seed and you will be very happy! Attached Photos of the grass at 18 days from planting.

To preface: I used Pennington's Northwest Seed. To say this is the best grass I have ever seen or used, is a gross understatement!
I have a small backyard (about 460 sq ft of lawn area) and the existing grass was a mishmash of different seed types and full of large brown spots and weeds and clover, etc.
I put in the time and a LOT of effort to roto-till the old sod and till the ground to a depth of several inches. I then spent a couple of weeks, raking the old sod and roots out and separating the soil from them.
I stock piled the soil in an area of the yard, leveled the grade by hand and began seeding. I spread the seed by hand, to ensure compete coverage and then spread the stockpiled soil over the top.
After that, I went over it all again with another 3 # bag and began watering.
The lawn was seeded on a Friday afternoon and on Wednesday, the seed had sprouted and is thriving.
I am writing this review TWO WEEKS to the day the grass seed was planted!
Check out the attached photos.
I will NEVER EVER buy any grass seed that isn't Pennington!!!
