Hello,
The exact seed blend is listed on the back of the bag of Pennington Smart Seed Sun & Shade. It does contain perennial grass seeds such as fescue and perennial ryegrass.

Answer:
Hello,
Warm season grasses can be sown between April and August normally. If you seed in the fall make sure you are using a seed blend that will grow in the cooler fall temperatures.

Answer:
Yes, it germinates better if you put a little straw over the patchy spots. Be sure to water every day the first week to keep the seed damp, enabling it to germinate quicker.

Answer:
Hello,
Clearing the area of debris and loosening the soil will help the new seedlings grow. Covering the seeds protects them. The Pennington Seed Starter Mat (SKU# 313-562) would be a good option and easier to use than wheat straw.

Pennington vs Vigoro Shade grass seed. 1st of all, forget the Scotts EZ Seed. There's a class action lawsuit pending on how this one doesn't do what they advertise. The grass in my front yard had died from who knows what so we had to start over. As much as we could control this test, we put equal amounts of soil and seed on each plot and added water. The Pennington brand came out best with a full thick carpet and healthy green. It took 2 more days than the Vigoro to grow but the results are much nicer. The Vigoro looks splotchy with some yellowing areas. It also didn't cover the other native grass like the Pennington did. You can find Pennington on sale at the same price as Vigoro if you catch it right.

Put down seed in September 2016 in St. Louis MO to fill in some bare spots that I have had trouble growing other seed in during the past spring. Prepared soil with hard rake and covered seed with topsoil. Watered twice daily keeping ground moist but not so much that it would form puddles. Seed germinated within first 10 days. About a month later it grew to be very nice and full.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in this product We received this grass seed on June 21, 2016. It is now August 2, 2016,and after having our gardener sow and then fertilize the ground with high quality steer manure, and having watered the area almost daily since the seed arrived, NOTHING has grown. I would not recommend this product to anyone and I am disappointed that Home Depot would sell it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not One Seed Germinated I planted this seed right before a week of rainy weather followed by a week of nice weather and watered daily and I used screen loam How can it be possible that Nothing Grew. What a waste of time. Spend the extra money on a product from a company with a more reputable track record. Guaranteed to Grow --- I don't think so.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smart Seed needs to be taken off the Market. It is a joke I planted an entire bag just like the instructions said and I have had just a few sprigs come up and they are already dying out. I have put a lot of work in this and the results are very disappointing. It seems more and more this is a buyer beware product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good then Bad I overseeded and patched bare areas with the sun & shade mix in May'15. The seed germinated beautifully in ~10 days and stayed strong throughout all of '15. I was excited! Fast forward to '16 and ALL of the grass from this seed died over the winter. The winter in my area was one of the mildest in years. I also patched bare areas with Jacklin Seed grass seed and those survived the winter and look better than nearly all of my lawn. Lesson learned: buy cheap Pennington seed and pay the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend the seed. We have used this grass seed in the past with great results. We re-landscaped an additional area using the same Sun and Shade North grass seed, again with outstanding results. We were very fortunate that we had mother nature on our side providing timely rain falls to augment the fast growth of the seed. We have had to cut the area four times since the planting. We overseeded other areas in the yard resulting in a lush lawn.
