While the grass seed sprouted well, I now have a new weed (finally identified by the Rutgers Extension Service as bittercress) growing everywhere I seeded. Areas of my yard that were not seeded do not have this weed. Where I increased the seed output, the weed is even more prevalent. When I contacted company representatives, they actually had the audacity to suggest purchasing their products to eradicate it!! The weed seed is in the Sun & Shade mix AND the Dense Shade mix. Buyer beware!!!

Part of the backyard is in near constant shade, and over the last few years we've used other grass seed that supposedly was for shady areas - nothing worked and the weeds were taking over. So about 3 weeks ago, after clearing the weeds once again, I tried this sun and shade mix - what a good decision! The seed worked and that weed filled shady area in the backyard is starting to look like a real lawn. We also used it elsewhere in sunny areas of the yard with the same good result. (My neighbor's 8 year old daughter had noticed the bare spots and showed me what her parents used - that's why I tried it. She's a smart kid!)

Purcahsed this for spot replacement in an area we had to dig out around our deck. We refilled the area with topsoil and even added a specific Lawn soil with fertilizer to lay on top of the other. we overseeded, put about another 1/8" of lawn soil over the top per instructions, watered and seeded again. Taking turns with the rain, we have ensured it receives water every day, per the directions. However, we have yet to see any growth after nearly two weeks. Maybe it's a slow grower, but the packaging made it seem as though you would see results sooner.

Pennington vs Vigoro Shade grass seed. 1st of all, forget the Scotts EZ Seed. There's a class action lawsuit pending on how this one doesn't do what they advertise. The grass in my front yard had died from who knows what so we had to start over. As much as we could control this test, we put equal amounts of soil and seed on each plot and added water. The Pennington brand came out best with a full thick carpet and healthy green. It took 2 more days than the Vigoro to grow but the results are much nicer. The Vigoro looks splotchy with some yellowing areas. It also didn't cover the other native grass like the Pennington did. You can find Pennington on sale at the same price as Vigoro if you catch it right.

The grass came up so nice. If I had enough moment I would do my whole yard in it. Three years ago my son died so I took some grass from where he was buried. It started like that. Now I have grass from my friends and family. I put all in one spot. I threw some seed into it. The seed grew grass does not grow there. I do not ever write these but I am today.

Covered with peat moss, watered daily, and NOTHING! Used regular Lesco Tall Fescue on the rest of my yard, which came up beautifully. Don't waste your money on this "smart seed".

I just sowed it today to fill in some sparse spots, in a light drizzle, and can't wait to see it come up in a few days once the rain stops and the sun returns.
