Answer:
I have been able to keep mine for about 9 months, and that includes filling a 10,000 gallon swimming pool, and a significant amount of silt coming from my well.

I am sure it depends upon usage and rain amounts, but for us (family of 4) it lasts about a year.

Answer:
It depends upon how much water you use. Ours is a whole house filter (including our outside hoses) so it only lasts 3-4 months. I know when it needs to be changed because the water tastes bad.

The Product Overview for this product estimates 6-12 months. The Product Overview for the Home Master product (into which this filter fits) claims 100,000 gallons, which they estimate "provides a full year of clean water for a family of four."
Hope this helps!

Answer:
No they will be different. This sediment filter is the first stage, and the second stage is typically a carbon filter. Usually you can see which filters a given system requires by expanding the Accessories tab in the middle of the product description page.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Keeping the water cleaner I have had the water filtration system for almost three years now, and have replaced the filters twice. This filter is the most important for my application because of all of the sediment that comes from my well. Removal is simple with the wrench provided with the original filter and housing purchase and the inlet and outlet isolation valves I installed with it. I discovered the assemblies are a bit heavy, so when they come unthreaded, the motion is not completely controlled, so I keep a bucket under the housing when removed. the O-ring seals effectively seal and have remained in great condition. When I installed the system, the shower had a lot of red stains on the tiles that I had to scrub off. They have not come back. I am fully satisfied with what this filter has done for me along with the iron filter in the second stage. October 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Filter Works Well This filter used in our Whole House Water filtration system has done a great job removing sediment from our household water. We're changing the filters in the system approximately every six months. We can recommend the Home Master sediment filter which is used in combination with an iron and carbon filter in our particular system October 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really works We use this in the first stage of the Home Master three-stage unit. The filter lasts about a year depending on water quality and water usage. I changed mine out early since a break in the water line sent some extra crud down the lines in our neighborhood. We have two different carbon filters after this one due do concerns over chemicals in the local water supply (Charleston, WV). I can see the multi-gradient function working since I have cut a used one in half. I could see where different materials get trapped the farther they go into the filter. I prefer this model since it is the 25/10/5/1 micron versus other single micron sediment filters. I think this particular one does a great job and plan to use it going forward. August 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product - purchased as part of system and replacement. We purchased this filter as a part of our system and as a replacement for our cottage / cabin / summer home. The water is EXTREMELY rusty. I started first by shock cholorinating the well. We happened to also install new plumbing around the system (ProPex - it's translucent) at the same time. Wow. My family is picky about the water and they have no problem drinking the water (no rust smell) and the washer has remained clean. Probably the biggest tell tale are the toilets which we cleaned with a rust remover and they have stayed free of rust for as long as we have had the system (2 years). Highly recommend the three stage system - it is worth the money. The only con I can think of is be prepared when it comes time to change the filters - there is a lot of water in there and it is heavy so either have someone help you or be ready. Although I have not done it, it would not be a bad idea to have a 2x4 shelf right below so the filter does not drop... September 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Filter Just replaced the 2 filters in my whole house system. This is the second filter change. This time I replaced the o-rings also. This made it a lot easier to screw the housing back on since the old o-rings stretch. October 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good filter We looked into water filters to help clean out iron and other sediment when we noticed that our fish tank was turning a reddish color. After installing and slowly as the weeks went by and adding water to the tank, the red was drastically reduced. Just recently I changed the filters and they were so dirty, which made me feel good that they were doing the job! I recommend them to anyone looking to purchase. September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Part of the best decision we made! Before changing over to this water filtration system we had very foul smelling water. We were changing filters twice a month. This filter right here... lasts about a year for us! September 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WELL WORTH IT WE HAD OUR SYSTEM INSTALLED BY A LICENSED PLUMBER AND GOT RID OF THE RENTAL UNIT FROM CULLIGAN AFTER 12 YEARS OF MONTHLY RENT AND TONS OF SALT.THE 3 STAGE FILTER SYSTEM HAS BEEN WONDERFUL. September 24, 2015
