Customer Questions & Answers

does the vinyl have to be removed before you install laminate?? we are about to have Home Depot install it but not sure what to do .

You can install over vinyl as long as the vinyl is secure to the floor and not curling up.

Is this product safe for kitchens?

Virginia walnut
Asked by: Anonymous
No laminate flooring is perfect for kitchens as it could be damaged by large amounts of water in any sized area. But if you are careful and clean up any liquid as soon as it spills, it should be fine. My experience with the Virginia Walnut is that it fits closely and seals well on its own during installation. I did not put it in my kitchen since I have slate tile, but I would feel confident with it in my kitchen, even knowing the risks.

Can I install it a few boxes at a time...completing a room in say, 6 months total rather than a weekend?

Asked by: Anonymous
You could install it a little at a time, but that is not recommended. Make sure you purchase enough for the entire project at the same time and store the boxes flat in a cool dry place. The wood laminate can expand or warp over time when stored, so it is better to have it installed rather than stored. I would recommend that you do the installation as quickly as possible rather than dragging it out over time in case the wood gets wet or exposed to high heat in storage as this can affect the product's quality.

We moved into a house with this floor. I cannot get the dull and streaky finish to go away. What can I mop this with that will get it shiny and non

Asked by: Lakelady1
Thank you for contacting Pergo. Here are the cleaning instructions for your floor. To clean, an occasional damp (not wet) mop, quick sweeping or light vacuuming with the hard floor attachments are usually all it takes. When damp mopping, an Ideal solution is a combination of 1 gallon of water with 1 cup vinegar or ½ cup of ammonia. Be sure to squeeze the water out of the mop thoroughly before mopping, and rinse the mop frequently. A spray bottle with the same water and vinegar/ammonia solution mentioned above is a great way to spot clean between moppings. Pergo floors must never be waxed, polished, sanded or refinished and never use a steam, wet or jet mop when cleaning. Do not use soaps, detergents, or cleaners with wax because they may leave a film, dulling the floor.
