Customer Questions & Answers

Are laminate floors wood and are they a fire hazard when installed close to a fireplace

We have put laminate flooring in our new house. The people that installed our fireplace are insisting that we put something else close to the fireplace saying it is fire hazard.
Asked by: Skippy
The standard answer is no combustibles within 12" although there is a lot of variables to be considered. Your best answer would be to contact your town building dept code official and ask specifics to your situation. Bring a picture... they're worth a million words.

I purchased and installed Pergo flooring from Home Depot #6583 in Abilene, Tx around April or May 2009.

I need to extend the flooring to replace tile at my front door that I previously left. I have no record of the exact name or number of the product. It is very similar to the Walden Oak or Belmont Oak. I pulled a couple of planks up to find any markings on the back. I found M1 09004 18:14 100379738 on the back. Can any information be obtained from this? Or perhaps could you tell me what similar products were sold during this time at this store?
Asked by: stumped
I bet you have Pergo Bridgeport Red Oak. I installed that in our dining room in 2009. Walden oak is very close, but slightly darker in one of the hues. Bridgeport Red Oak was discontinued.

the room is 12ft x 20ft how much will i need for the laminate flooring

Asked by: nana
since the laminate is typically sold by case multilpy the length in inches (144) by the width in inches (240) and divide by 144 (sq inches/ ft) result being 240 sqft add 10-20% for cutting loss then devide by the sqft per case to get total cases.

Does the flooring come with a thin padding attached to the back of the pieces?

Asked by: mary
No it does not. Their more upscale product does. This product will require the use of their standard underlayment which isn't very expensive or difficult to use. The underlayment comes in a 4' wide roll and is about 1/8 or 3/15" thick of white, kind of foamy plastic. It acts like a moisture barrier and somewhat of a pad so it will muffle sound. The floor will not feel spongy to walk on however unless the original floor did. The underlayment doesn't require any staples or glue. It just lays there or 'floats' just like the floor.

Customer Reviews

Presto Walden Oak 8 mm Thick x 7-5/8 in. Wide x 47-5/8 in. Length Laminate Flooring (20.17 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely transformed my living area Since we installed our flooring, it feels like we are living in a completely different home. We no longer have to worry about doctoring stains on the carpet from our dog's muddy paws or our son's spilled juice - any messes can be easily cleaned up. And overall it has a very clean look. I cannot speak for the installation because I hired contractors for that, but judging by their feedback I don't think difficulty of installation is much of an issue. The cost is right around what I was expecting. All told, for about two grand we were able to completely transform our main living area and (hopefully) increase the value of our home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Floor I really love my new floor! The HD photo is good, but the flooring looks much better in person! I didn't install the floor myself, but HD had their own certified installers to do the work, so I really can't judge for myself on how easy the installation was. I feel for the value and quality of this solid laminate, this floor will more than meet your expectations. I live alone with little traffic, so I'm sure my floor will last through it's 30 year warranty and beyond. I added a photo from my humble home so you can see the beauty of the contrasting light and darker gradients Walden Oak displays. Hopefully this will help others with their decision on which wood laminate will best suits their personal taste.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great flooring! Very easy to install after doing a little research. We were beginners and this went very smoothly. WE hit a few rough spots ( stairs up and down , doorways, tile on the floor around fireplace) but we did our research and moved on. I would recommend to remove all baseboards ( if this pertains to you) before installing. So glad we did. We ordered 200+ sq feet and out of all the boxes there were about 12 boards manufacture damaged but we could cut the ends off of some of them and use for end of rows. We have a small dog and we have had no scratches yet. This is a high traffic area too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like regular wood flooring My wife has been after me for 5 years to replace our berber carpeting and the ugly linolium. Finally did so and now seeing the beauty, makes me wonder why I waited so long. Profesional install 400sq ft in one day. Couldn't be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like real hardwoods! We recently purchased this product to cover old linoleum in our foyer, and made the attempt to match real hardwoods that we just refinished in the family room. Couldn't have gotten any closer! The color is spot on, only the grain is just a hair different. It really blends nicely, and from a distance you can't even tell the difference between our real hardwoods and this laminate. Definitely satisfied with this purchase! I will be now be ordering it for the dining room and kitchen as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great flooring Great looks and very easy to install. Comfortable to walk on and feels like real wood. Needs to be cleaned often as we have it in the main entry way and the sun reflections show foot prints a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great product The final product looks exactly like what we hoped it would. The instructions for installation were helpful to plan, prepare and implement. It was easy to install and turned out great. It worked better to ease it into place with light tapping to keep the seams nicely lined up without buckling or damage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from product is nice, customer service poor Flooring went down with relative ease although I had 2 from different boxes that had white stripes embedded along the edge. Was able to bury one but had to retain the other. Contacted pergo with the information and box ID's but didn't even receive a response. So the bottom line is I 'ate' 2 boards (about $15) and the product is no longer available so I hope I won't need to actually use the warranty service. There is better items out there and based on this experience I be using them in the future rather than pergo
