Disabled - is this a slippery flooring?

Does the texturing reduce slipping? Would you recommend this particular flooring for disabled persons?
Asked by: Shipping101
So far I have had no problem with the floor being slippery while walking on it with only socks. I had a different Pergo product prior to this and generally had no problems. However, certain cleaning products are not recommended as they can cause the floor to become slippery (i.e. Pledge furniture polish, be careful spraying any such product on furniture since any overspray that reaches the floor will make it very slippery). I also noticed an issue near an entryway where I typically kept a rug. When the rug was removed, the area was slippery when walking on it with socks. I'm guessing that the underside of the rug somehow buffed the surface over time. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the use of a cane, walker, or other device on this floor.

XP Coffee Handscraped Hickory 12 mm Thick x 5-1/4 in. Wide x 47-1/4 in. Length Laminate Flooring (360.9 sq. ft./pallet) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pergola XP flooring My wife and I are extremely pleased with Pergo's laminate flooring. We chose the Coffee Handscraped Hickory and can't say enough about the color and texture of it. Easy to install and, again,it looks spectacular. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because there were a couple of bad planks. Apart from that, I'd highly recommend this flooring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks awesome BUT dissapointed with the few bad ones Really easy to put together, feels nice, and looks great! I would definitely give it 5 stars BUT I have about 15 planks from different boxes ,so far, that are either broken or chipped. So far the defective planks have been found in the middle of the box, so I highly doubt it was shipping that mishandled the shipment.

Extremely disappointing. Will not use again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very durable with 2 big dogs We are halfway through the installation of this flooring. We just ordered a second pallet and did "ship to store", both times it arrived in 5 business days (they originally estimated 10 days). It is very easy to install and so far we have been impressed with the durability - we have 2 big labs that like to run around the house and drop their bones on the floor - no scratches or dents to be seen. When researching what to get, we had a lot of people tell us that hardwood flooring was the way to go for improving the value of our home. We have friends that installed hardwood flooring in their home, and within weeks they were starting to see dents and scratches from their big dog. My thought was, what is the point of paying all the money for hardwood, if it going to get beat up by our pets and then if we go to sell the house in several years, it becomes a problem because the floors look bad. Maybe laminate flooring won't increase the value of our home as much as hardwood, but at least if we go to sell in a few years it will still look like new and it is still a huge improvement over the dirty carpet that we have been living with. If you are debating whether to get the 10mm or the 12mm, I would opt for the 12mm - I am very happy with the thickness, it is a lot more forgiving during installation. My brother installed a 7-8mm thickness laminate in their home and they had to do a lot of extra prep work to make sure that the sub-flooring was perfectly flat and that there were no bumps or other irregularities, otherwise it would be noticeable after the flooring was installed on top of it. With the much thicker 12mm laminate, this was not an issue for us.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the quality we expected from pergo. The laminate chipped within a couple weeks, which has never happened with the older laminate we have. It was also much more difficult to install than the other pergo xp we bought. Would not buy this again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pergo flooring My floor has only been down for 10 months and i have a scratch and a deep nick in it. I feel with going with the 12 mm thickness that it should have better durability. you keep a floor a long time and I'm not happy that i have to live with floors that should be looking perfect. I worry about them lasting over time. Not a happy customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't Expect it to install like the You Tube Video shows. So far I have installed 3 Pallets of the 12MM XP Coffee Handscraped Hickory. We love it! having a 90lbs black lab proves the durability, no scratched no chips. I’ve even dropped a few tools on it without issue. The extra thick material with the attached underlayment has a genuine wood sound, feel, and appearance. You do have to inspect every panel for defects, out of all the flooring maybe had issues with 6 pieces with manufacturing blemishes. (Still can be used as a starter or finisher with the blemish cut out) My Biggest issue is with installation. If you watch the Pergo Videos there is this lady that has zero issues getting the panels to lock, this is not the case by a loooong shot. After letting the Product acclimate to the room at 67 degrees, I went to install the product. Instructions have you measure the room’s width divide by the product width and the difference need to split on both ends to have uniform installation, this was the easy part. Next row needs to be staggered and lock in, this is where I have a problem, it would not lock but just rock back and forth and not engage. After talking to a few co-workers out of frustration I was told to take a scrap piece with a tongue, and screw on a 2x4. This would provide a surface to hammer, not damage the flooring and force the tongue and slot to engage. IT WORKED! I was able to lock in the ends and hammer the pieces in with a dead blow hammer. Sometimes the side to side lock had problem engaging and this would be overcome with a pull bar, couple of smacks and it would lock. A couple of reviews on here address chipping. The only time I had issues with chipping is when cutting the product. I use a skill 3600 floor saw and a 40 tooth blade. (40 tooth being specified by pergo). Pergo is some hard stuff; cutting requires patents and going slow for a clean cut otherwise chipping may occur, usually not a problem because the baseboard will hide it. Only other issue I had was grabbing the produce by the slot straddling the product with my hand my thumb would chip the slot. This was usually a small section and not a problem when installed. Only other observation I have is when the product is locked in, there is a 0 percent chance of taking it apart without tearing the slot. I have firsthand experience when I noticed a board 2 rows back had a blemish, unfortunately as careful has you can be the slots will rip, and the board now has only a good tongue left. (used to finish a row).
