Customer Questions & Answers

In a bathroom, do you remove the toilet and put it back down over the new floor, or cut your boards to the

toilet? Also when you go around a wall and have to start going back in the direction opposite of where you started, do the boards snap into place just as easily? Can you work both forward and backward with these boards?
Asked by: Marlin
It is always best to remove the toilet before installing any flooring in the bathroom...makes a much neater line. And these boards have a locking groove on the "short" side that you can only lock by laying the left board down first and locking the next right board to it. As a result, you can't lay a row working from right to left. With that said, this may not be the best flooring for a high-water area like a bathroom. Prolonged exposure to water will warp the wood in the boards. Pergo does make a new version that is more water resistant and you may want to take a look at that.

Tongue & Groove Adhesive on Prego XP Vermont Maple

I must have the color of Prego XP Vermont Maple but want some added water resistance of the Prego OUTLAST+ with SpillProtect24. The problem is that there is no Vermont Maple color in the Prego OUTLAST+ selection. Would using the ROBERTS Tongue & Groove Adhesive 1406 add to the water resistance at the joints? Reference:
Asked by: Barry
OK,thank you for this advice. I will look for another product that is maple and water resistant. Perhaps PREGO will soon offer a lighter color flooring like XP Vermont Maple in a Prego OUTLAST+ certification ?

Mine has been down 3 1/2 years now (Home Depot installed) and we are not real careful/fussy people. Not much shows on this floor so if you neglect your weekly cleaning it isn't terrible. I keep a rug below the ice maker to catch ice chips and one in front of the sink and stove. Otherwise it is in about 1,200 sf of my house but not in any baths. So far, it looks just like it was installed. I only use Bono on it occasionally but mostly just take the duster to it. Here is a trick. Pull off the floor pad on your Swiffer/Bono mop and attach two Swiffer dusters to it. I go all over the house and then just toss them, but have also rinsed them and reused. Water is not supposed to stand on this Pergo and that is all that concerns me, but so far so good. People really comment on how beautiful it is.

Recommend to use an installation kit to aid in making all seams tight. Just a note, this flooring has a very slight bevel on the edges to give the appearance of spacing between the boards. I really like this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, warm color and looks like a wood floor After I got the hang of laying the rows, it was a pleasure to install. The hardest part of the installation was locking in all the planks in the row. And contrary to some youtube don't use a hammer. I watched the official Pergo videos over and over and consulted with the Home Depot floor experts to get the real scoop. I made my own video but haven't posted it yet. Lifting the full row and connecting the tongue and groove took some time to get the hang of it. But now I'm a Pergo expert. I used a miter saw to cut the planks and a handheld jigsaw to cut the odd pieces around the closet openings. My husband cut the first rows on a table saw as they were less than a full width. I laid the planks in a 1/3, 2/3, and full plank pattern and that was much easier than random lengths. Haven't put the baseboards back on yet but it looks fantastic. I did 3 bedrooms and averaged about 2 boxes per hour (16 planks). That's roughly 25 square feet per hour. The smaller bedrooms took me about 6 hours each and the master bedroom took me 10 hours. I love the look of the planks - the texture and beveled edge gives them a real wood appearance.

I know dark floors are popular now but I think this warm light color (Vermont Maple) makes our 1500 square foot house look bigger and more welcoming. We installed it from front door through two living spaces and kitchen, everything but the carpeted bedrooms and linoleum bathrooms, which gave lovely continuity throughout. Plan to add area rugs for added softness/noise reduction. Pleased with quality--looks like wood to me, especially with the texture built in to resemble wood grain.

This looks like a pretty good product and easy to install, but it has a flaw in the engineering design that the corners crack. A chair (or a boot with a heel ?) positioned over where the two joining planks meet on will crack because of the hollow area machined out for the plastic lock. I need to contact Home Depot and Pergo for warranty the floor has been installed less then a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This was our first venture at installing laminate floors. This product was really easy to use, especially considering the underlayment is already attached. We had no damaged boards. The finish made our room look bright and welcoming. The bevelled edge gives it a more high end look. We plan to finish the rest of our house with this flooring.
