Questions & Answers

In a bathroom, do you remove the toilet and put it back down over the new floor, or cut your boards to the

toilet? Also when you go around a wall and have to start going back in the direction opposite of where you started, do the boards snap into place just as easily? Can you work both forward and backward with these boards?
Asked by: Marlin
It is always best to remove the toilet before installing any flooring in the bathroom...makes a much neater line. And these boards have a locking groove on the "short" side that you can only lock by laying the left board down first and locking the next right board to it. As a result, you can't lay a row working from right to left. With that said, this may not be the best flooring for a high-water area like a bathroom. Prolonged exposure to water will warp the wood in the boards. Pergo does make a new version that is more water resistant and you may want to take a look at that.

Tongue & Groove Adhesive on Prego XP Vermont Maple

I must have the color of Prego XP Vermont Maple but want some added water resistance of the Prego OUTLAST+ with SpillProtect24. The problem is that there is no Vermont Maple color in the Prego OUTLAST+ selection. Would using the ROBERTS Tongue & Groove Adhesive 1406 add to the water resistance at the joints? Asked by: Barry
OK,thank you for this advice. I will look for another product that is maple and water resistant. Perhaps PREGO will soon offer a lighter color flooring like XP Vermont Maple in a Prego OUTLAST+ certification ?

Most people I know have installed a darker color Pergo floor and I am glad we chose the lighter color. It is fresh and bright. Just make sure you replace your saw blade after cutting this as the surface is very tough and eats blades. Many times I would see sparks when the blade cut through the Pergo. Just hope that tough surface means it will last a long time and stand up to much traffic in our house. But with a life-time guarantee I am not too worried.

I put laminate down in my previous 2000 sf house previously, so I know what I'm doing. That laminate was the cheap stuff (99 cents/sf) and had its share of issues, but it stayed together better than this stuff. This Pergo always came apart at the short seems. I'm not saying that to exaggerate. Every single time it popped loose while the long end stayed put. Now the good news is you could stomp down on it and it would snap back into place, but it doesn't make you feel particularly confident about the product or about it holding together. It has been installed for more than a month now and it still looks good. A few of the seams are suspect, but the floor is right next to a sliding glass door that has a doggy door and it's the middle of a Texas summer, so some ebb and flow is expected as the temperature fluctuates.

This product is very easy to install and strongly recommended. ( Always do your own research first ) After 3 months of searching for flooring finally we found something that we really liked. We have installed this Pergo XP everywhere in our home and we absolutely love it. We bought 140 unit (6 Pallets) because we were told 20% percent waste by Home Depot and most flooring contractors but we end up returning 1 pallet. We did not receive any defected units and we carefully use our cuts that minimize our waste to 5% or less. Pergo laminate floor is much higher quality than other brands of laminate. It looks like real wood flooring. We used this to replace carpeting in the bedrooms where the rest of the house was real hardwood and it looks fantastic even right up against the real wood. We couldn't be happier.

Other than a few boards being slightly damaged (I was able to cut and use them elsewhere) this floor was simple to install and has refreshed our family room. Will be looking to use this again when I redo the floors in our living room and dining room.

We had to lay rugs over it to walk on because the flooring is like walking on ice, especially if only wearing socks. I'm sure it will wear well & it doesn't show scratches, but I hate it.
