I gave this bird feeder to my son & partner for their home. Since they "have everything"
they really loved this as a house gift!!! I purchased at same time the S hook, and
food to get them started. I am sooooo glad I gave this to them... the birds are

Within 1 hour of putting out the squirrels had unscrewed the top, and were also eating away down below. Nice feeder but NOT critter proof. I have lots of photos of this, maybe I should send some to the manufacturer!

This purchase replaces the same feeder I bought about 5 years ago. Agree with others that the plastic is not sturdy however, I've not found one with a similar design anywhere. I have it on a tree branch and the ability to remove the container from the bottom makes it possible to refill the feeder w/o a ladder. Also true that it can be difficult to line everything up just so to secure the feed container. All that said, the convenience and price point work for me.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OfAlcatraz Great Bird Feeder!
This is the best bird feeder I have found for our application. It keeps squirrels from easily taking all of the seed. They can still get to the seed, but at a very slow rate. The internal plastic chamber is removable from the the metal cage by lifting and twisting the bottom of the feeder. This way the refill is done without having to reach to the top of the feeder. After filling, it is easily re-attached from the bottom of the cage.
The only way this might be better would be if the cage was distanced farther from the plastic insert, to discourage squirrels even more.

The plastic cylinder that holds the seed cracked within a few weeks of purchase, while still usable it's life span is limited. This is the second of these that I've owned. The first lasted for several years but the quality of the second leaves a lot to be desired. In addition, it isn't easy to lock the tabs in the metal frame after filling.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Debbie Great idea BUT not quite right
After examing all the feeders on the shelf I THOUGHT this was best to keep out the squirrels. It had a heavy guage metal grid around the feeder and on the top and bottom. It only lasted about 1 month before the little bugger's teeth chewed the seed hole at the bottom and the seed just poured out as quick as you put it in the top. It would work great if the metal was a little further away from the plastic feed holes. It can be hard to align in the holder in cold weather with gloves too, but is still workable. It's a good feeder otherwise, but don't expect it to keep out the "fuzzy tails".

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rzeigler Heavy Duty Bird Feeder
Having had other "Heavy Duty" bird feeders destroyed over time by squirrels, I decided to give this one a shot. So far it has held up to daily attacks quite well with no visible signs of damage. We have everything from wrens to doves come by and it handles all of them equally. While it is not "Squirrel Proof" as far as them getting food, it does seem to be inasmuch as they cannot damage it. I also like the large capacity of food it holds. Makes me fill it less often.

This bird feeder claimed to stop pesky squirrels. It was hung properly but the seed was all knocked out and did not stop the squirrels. It holds lots of seed and sadly the entire feeder was dumped over by the squirrels knocking all the seed on the ground it was a lot wasted :-(
