When attaching the baffler using the screws, I had to use a drill because of how tight the holes were! Not sure if it was just a one-off manufacturing glitch on the one I purchased, but it was a bit of a hassle.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JDfromChesterland Cheap hardware makes it a bad idea to buy
Good concept, but the product failed because the hardware is cheap plastic that doesn't hold a 20-lb bird feeder. I bought four of these, one for each birdhouse. Three of them fell to the ground. It broke one expensive bird feeder. The company should invest in metal hardware.

Bought two for our feeders and figured that by mounting them directly on the poles that the occasion for damage would be minimized. Not So!!! Wind got gusty last night and both baffler's cracked badly banging around. Guess the hard plastic is too brittle to take anything but a gentle breeze. Waste of my money and I guess I was wrong in thinking it would work for me.

This has defeated our squirrels to date and it's been about a year. They've tried gnawing through it to get to the feeder but to no avail. It also helps to protect the seed from rain. I'm very pleased with this purchase - more than exceeded my expectations.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by SquirrelsareNutsinMN Squirrels broke in within a week!
I tried everything prior to this Baffler. These squirrels almost gave up on my feeder, but not quite. It seems as though they called in a professional to do the job. He actually broke the heavy plastic hook in half (like you see in the photo). Not sure if it ate threw it or clawed it, but it was broken in half. I can't tell you the $$ I went through to keep squirrels out of my bird feeder. I give up and throw in the towel! I thought after seeing so many fail to get at this, I'd actually found the perfect product. Nothing, nowhere is squirrel proof apparantly. And people say animals are stupid? I wish I had had a camera on this to see how it actually broke. The only evidence was the fat and happy squirrel laying next to it on the ground so full he couldn't move. Pros: this paid for itself in the first two weeks by keeping the squirrels from eating the bird seed. It is also very entertaining to watch them try to get around it.
Con: The squirrels chew on the plastic hook and destroy it. I replaced it with a 1/4 inch turn buckle from the hardware department still cheaper than the metal baffle available,.

It worked for about five minutes. I bought this yesterday and after the third attempt, the squirrels were on the feeder below. I tried every conceivable height, but nothing deterred the squirrels. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dennis Squirrel Baffler collar suggested repair
As said by others the concentric collar that locates the baffle is the part that is not made well and is very brittle and it will easily crack during installation and or normal use. I did however fix this part by taking a piece of 1" PVC pipe that I cut to about 3- 4 inches long and then used PVC glue to the inside hole. I also drilled new holes for he screws in the end of this PVC pipe.
I am surprised that this company who makes them has not come up with a new design
