Are the perches large enough for cardinals to use this feeder? (I see the stock photo shows one, but has anyone seen a cardinal on their own feeder?) Thanks!
Asked by: VTSHR
Cardinals are mainly ground feeders and we scatter seeds for all the ground feeders. Haven't seen any cardinals try the new feeder

How do you remove lid

Asked by: Bob
To remove the lid hold the cap on top of the lid, where the metal loop is and turn counter clockwise. the entire lid will turn, so do not be alarmed. The lid is attached to a long metal shaft that runs down the entire length of the feeder. Depending on how tightly the shaft is screwed in at the bottom of the feeder you may end up removing the entire shaft when you take the lid off. Do not worry, just screw the shaft back into place at the bottom of the feeder and then screw the lid back on. Do not tighten the lid too much in order to avoid this issue the next time you refill the feeder.

Where can I find a replacement spring for the squirrel proof cage

A squirrel managed to pull one of the fine suspension springs and completely destroy it. I need a new spring. I guess the feeder is not squirrel proof. Richard Roark
Asked by: Dick
I could not find replacement springs and had the throw the entire unit out with the trash after it was destroyed by squirrels.

A few years ago, I bought a smaller (2 lbs. seed capacity) Perky-Pet feeder, and have been very happy with it. Needed an additional feeder for the many birds showing up this season, so decided to purchase this larger one a few weeks ago. It's sturdy, easy to fill, is squirrel-proof and best of all it holds 8 lbs. of seed. The 3 chambers allow you to serve your birds different types of seed, or you can fill the entire feeder with the same seed variety. I love it! Highly recommend this feeder.

It's great, however the top is not big enough to keep the squirrels away--they can hang by their hind feet from that top and eat away. I had to buy a baffle that is for a feeder support and put it over the top. It is too big round for the squirrel to hang from it.

So far it has worked well in foiling the bushy tailed rats from getting the bird seed. Based on past experience its probably only a matter of time before they manage to get into the feeder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Certainly NOT Squirrel Proof The squirrels are smarter than this feeder. The guards that are to slide down when the squirrel gets on the feeder, do slide down but the decorative leaves which are to block the feeding ports don't completely cover the ports, therefore the squirrels reach in to the sides of the guards and just pull the food out. Additionally, the squirrels, break the plastic guards which are intended to allow only a small amount of bird seed out at a time. This allows the seed to freely pour out on the ground.
