Answer:
Buoyant force = Volume of water displaced x (density weight of water – density weight of object)
So, water weighs 62.4 pcf (that’s pounds per cubic feet). The approximate volume of the block is found by the dimensions given – (24x48x16”) divided by 1728 cubic inches per cubic feet = 10.6 CF. The weight of the block is given in the spec’s which = 37 lbs.
So, density weight of the block is 37 lbs. / 10.6

10.6 CF = 3.5 pcf.
Buoyant force of 1 block = 10.6 CF x (62.4 pcf – 3.5 pcf) = 625 lbs. per Block, if the block is fully submerged. If you don’t want the block to ever be more that say ½ submerged, then only use half the height of the block when figuring out the volume of water displaced.
To know how many blocks to use, you need to figure how much weight they have to hold per a certain area.

Answer:
We built a 12'x12' dock and put 6 2'x4'x16" drums under it and it does great. Really depend on how much weight your wanting to put on it and the weight of your dock.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I was wonderfully surprised Ordered the floats and thought i was ordering to store and would take weeks, I was so surprised to come home and see them put under the shed. Can you believe they unloaded them and stacked them for me and i didnt even know they were coming to my home. Great job, No wonder Home Depot does so well. Bought 10 pallets of sack crete, and all the lumber to do my boat dock. Will always used Home Depot when need to do building. Enclosed is pictures of my dock with the wood tags and the float tags attached. I am so proud. Thank you. PS pictures are of treated flooring , screws, 4'x2'x16" poly floats August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PERFECT FOR FLOATING PUMPS We use these for our floating pumps in the river and lagoons. They work Perfect! August 31, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Permafloat Floats seem to be well made. Very easy to install. I used them for a 12'x12' floating dock. Hindsight, probably should have used four of the "48x48" floats. Time will tell regarding durability. Reviews all seem to be consistently pretty good regarding longevity. I like my dock to be a little more stable with 4-5 people on it. I used all 2x8 pressure treated lumber with the the residential angled hardware which seems to be very capable. Don't expect the hardware to be a perfect 90. 2 of the 4 were off. Not that big a deal to me. If you use pressure treated lumber just know that it gets heavy really quick especially if you are using a lot of the optional dock hardware. Also note that a good rule of thumb to follow when trying to figure the bouyancy is whatever the total weight of the dock w/o the floats. You will want at least that much bouyancy and preferably more depending on how bouncy you want your dock to be. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by exactly what i needed Could have got it for same price somewhere else, but went with home depot because if it didn't work, didn't have to take it back could just take it to the nearest store. July 19, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Buy with confidence Buy with confidence, these dock floats work perfectly and are easy to mount. I purchased 6 for a new addition to my floating dock. Just install the vent plug and they are ready to float. March 8, 2016
