Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rob Install using metal bolts
The door is made of aluminum and the flap is made of a thick plastic that provides good insulation from the heat and cold outside. However, it comes with nylon screws to hold the frame in the door. These made it easy to install in my door that is not solid wood, but after 3 months of use the screws snapped and the frame came crashing around my dog as he went through.
I went onto the PetSafe website and they want $14.95 for 8 replacement screws (the door needs 4) plus $4.95 for 5-7 day shipping. I think that is crazy.
I went to Home Depot and bought machined steel #10 2.5" bolts and nuts for $3. The door feels much more secure.

I have used PetSafe doggy doors in three houses - over the past 20 years and have always been very pleased with them. I have basset hounds so they must be installed low to the bottom of the door for the hounds' low tummy clearance. My cat loves it as well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BigDawg Attractive and easy to install...
It's a better value through Home Depot than buying direct from manufacturer or other sites. Several great improvements over previous ones. It's attractive and fairly easy to install if it's a new installation. Mine was a replacement of an older door that was larger so I had to do some improvising to make the wall look right and neat. I used it also in my vacation home using the flap on the inside wall and instead of using the outside trim frame I used a wood trim border around the opening and made a wood hinged door that matches the wood exterior of the house. This unit is supposed to be for installing in a door but it is versatile enough that with a little thought and planning you can adapt it to go most anywhere.

This is the second one I have purchased only because we moved and it's awesome. Very easy to install and it's perfect size for my 60lb. Australian shepherd dogs. I love that it comes with a locking panel also for if we want them left outside or inside.

1) Cheap Quality.
2) I would not recommend. I was dissatisfied. My previous installation was much easier.
3) Cheap Plastic Screws, I had to go buy new ones.
4) The led cover is slim..SNAPS on, instead of making it a slide door.
5) I wish this was durable materials instead of disposable temporary materials
6) Difficult installation ( Not impossible )_ but difficult.
7) Return it ? Well nope, I have a big hole on the door and just going through the whole hassle again is not even worth my time. So I guess I will settle with it.. and not waste any more time.
The four walls along the door, plus the two frames are nightmare to put together.
It is difficult to match the multiple walls to match the front and back plate frames.
I think that a better design should have been built.

Our "new" home came with an older version of this model. If it's like most other things that came with this house, the previous door was in place for many, many years ( quality does last). It needed a new flap,as it gets full morning sun and was warped. A new door wasn't much more than just a replacement flap, so I decided to purchase a new one. Of course the new holes didn't match the old template, and we had to square off the previous opening. The old one was silver, the new white one looks much better. And like everyone one else, really, plastic bolts. Husband had to run to HD to get the correct size bolts, in metal. All the animals quickly adjusted to using the new flap. It seals well and I no longer have the gap letting air in or out. Over all a great purchase, just buy metal bolts before you leave the store.
Of note, my family in Wyoming has the heavy duty "three ply" doggie door and they love it too.

I have an older version of this same PetSafe dog door and it was made better than the new version. The new version comes with PLASTIC screws - how cheap! And the locking door is no longer metal, but plastic. It is advertised as an aluminum door still, so I expected it ALL to be aluminum. Door does seal well and installs easily however.

This allows the dog easy access to the backyard whenever he needs to go out, without the hassle of having to open the door to let him out every time.
