Answer:
Actually came with a newer cartridge that was shorter and round ports rather than the oval the original had. Instead of changing the valve body, I reused the bottom of the old cartridge and used it with the new cartridge. Not sure why both cartridges have the same part # as they are different.

Answer:
The stops (water shut offs) allow you to use a screwdriver to shut the water off at the tub/shower valve rather than having to shut off off your main house water to make repairs to valve.

Answer:
The stops on the valve body #0X8-340A are there so you may turn off the water at the valve body instead of turning off the water to the whole house if, for example you need to change the cartridge.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by quality issue with o-ring for valve insertion Appeared to assemble correctly, if you remove the valve (per the instructions in the documentation to clean it) from the housing the o-ring stretches out of round and will not seat therefore the valve leaks. Called Pfister support could not get through, left a message for call back which was never responded to. Had to purchase a second valve with a new o-ring and rejected the original valve as defective and returned it to Home Depot. Thanks to the Home Depot service desk. During this time the water was shut off to the whole house, main shut off for the whole house, so without water the whole time I was resolving this issue. So far the valve appears to be working correctly, left it exposed so that I could watch it for leaks. July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! Piece came as described, and the plumber installed in quick order. Old one was 32 years old, so during our Master Bath remodel we decided to change out everything we could. Like the fact that this was offered with the shower head; made it easy! July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product I purchased this valve and I was a snap to install. Direction were excellent. Key point is to know how far back to install before the concrete board and tile are installed. I had an extra piece of concrete board and a piece of tile I made as a guide to get the exact depth with the adhesive. When it came time to put on the shower head, tub nozzle and the on/off lever it was a perfect fit. No leaking, very smooth action. Now let me address some of the other reviews. There is no plastic piece, its metal. People complaining because they had to purchase the valve and the faucet separate? Really? People need to get a clue. Bottom line, this valve works awesome and was easy to install and I hate plumbing work. May 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tub faucet Not easy to install, without instructions, not for beginners July 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Valve malfunction I bought this shower faucet approx. 5 years ago. In the last few months I have had a problem with the hot side not working properly, while I also had hot water coming from the cold taps on a nearby vanity faucet. This was traced back to the shower faucet by a licensed plumber. I contacted Pfister and they are sending me a replacement part free of charge. I am very impressed with the service and the unit. I would recommend Pfister faucets to anyone. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] December 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pfizer single control pressure After I purchased the valve I read the comments and was concerned that the plastic would make it easy to break and the knob would be lose. I want you to know they have fixed that issue of the valve. There is no plastic and it works great! October 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great. Great warranty service! I bought this when I upgraded my bathroom 4 years ago. Works well! 2 years ago, water flow stopped on the hot water side of the valve. Something plugged the port for the hot water. Sent Price Phister an e-mail, and they shipped a new valve to my house, no questions asked. I received an e-mail reply the next day saying they were shipping a replacement valve. The new valve arrived less than a week after I sent my e-mail to them. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap plastic See that white thing sticking out? It's plastic. That is what the handle attaches to via a metal stub. That plastic part is the "anchor" for the handle. Once you install the handle it'll wobble. Not solid at all. It feels like it'll snap off at any time. Don't buy this product. If only they invested a buck more and made it metal. June 7, 2014
