Customer Questions & Answers

What is the dry time

Asked by: Spacklingpro123
PATCH-N-PAINT® Lightweight Spackling may be painted within approximately 15 minutes with a latex paint (assuming warm/dry conditions). If sanding is desired, or if an oil-based paint is to be used, allow to dry thoroughly (approximately 24 hours).

When you go to sand the lumps out (and sand you must unlike what the product says on the instructions), the spackle flakes off and scratches requiring more spackle and then more sanding. Plus it takes FOREVER to dry. When you think its dry (after more than two days) it is still rubbery to the touch. I could put my finger into it and leave a dent. This is horrible spackle and unless you want to take more time to finish your project, don't buy it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable on drywall I purchased the bucket size of this marshmellow stuff, and I was really disappointed. I tried different size, shape putty knives but couldn't find one that would spread this stuff so it would stick and stay in all types of small drywall holes. Waiting an hour or next day, the spackled spot would often show a shallow crater and require another round of spackle, indicating shrinkage during the curing. It's lightweight, so it seems ideal for filling ceiling holes. But when I used it to fill deep cracks around an attic hatch, it would require more than a day to cure and still set up fluffy and soft. I found the product to be unreliable and not worth another minute. By the way, I'm an experienced DIYer. Reading the other positive reviews is just weird.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We Like This One Client was a new owner of an old Chicago 2-flat, with plaster-on-lath walls & ceilings. Extensive re-wiring was done to bring the building up to current electrical code. As a result, there were multiple holes in walls and ceilings ranging from fist-size to sewer-cover size. We started with a powder plaster product, but it became unworkable much too quickly (like hard fudge), and cleaning out the mud-pan between each hole, and then mixing another batch became very tedious and time consuming. We purchased a number of ready-to-go, Plaster-in-a-tub products, While they all went on quick and easy, they did not dry quickly, and after overnight curing, they were still marsh-mellow soft. The DAP Patch-N-Paint was the clear winner. Even though the other ones were twice the quantity for the price, we ended up returning the unused other-brand tubs, and purchasing several more of the Patch-N-Paste to finish the project.
