Asked by: cajun
Use .125 spline for 5/16. You would use .190 if you were using 7/16 frame

How fine are the holes in the screen?

Asked by: Siguy

Would this work well in a solar collector? Also what temperature could it stand for long periods?

Possible use in a solar collector with temps of 150 degrees

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Screen I had a couple of west facing windows in my home that were really heating up the adjacent rooms. I decided to give the Sun Tex screens a try. I made a pair of screens out of easily available frames to cover the entire window area. I used simple clips to mount the screen to the perimeter casing, I will remove the screens in the winter to take advantage of the sun. The screens have made a huge improvement in the temperature of the rooms. We are even able to open the blinds to let the light in during the day because the screen cuts down on much of the solar gain. They are barely noticeable from the outside. One hint on making the screens, I would suggest using a spline cord that is 1 size smaller than the frame requires, the thickness of the screen makes it hard to roll the spline into the frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Product I replaced every screen in my house with this. The difference in the heat coming through is really unbelievable. The difference was noticeable on day one ,and will no doubt save money over the years. The product is thick and very durable. The thickness means you must buy small diameter spline and have a good quality spline tool in order to install!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works as advertised, strong. Using this to build external screens for my southern exposure windows. Wish I had done this years ago. Outward visibility is great as is the sun diffusion and reduction of heat. We had been just keeping the blinds closed up till now but you could feel the heat radiating when you got near them. Having these screens on the outside keeps the heat from entering the house in the first place. This screen is thick and strong. The kind of screen you would use around pets that like to use their paws. I have since switched to using the 90% Super Solar Screen. It is not as thick; easier to work with and has about the same visibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easily installed Used on the south side of a shed. So far works as expected- blocks more heat, but has a more restricted viewing but not a problem.. Need to use a smaller spline. I used .140 on mine. had 5 windows to cover at 54 inches each, so 25 feet worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solar screens are great way to have cooler rooms in the summer. This was a Phifer brand solar Suntex 80/20 screen and product was exactly as ordered. I found that one size smaller spline (.125) was needed to install the screen in my original aluminum screen frames which I had spray painted black also. I found that if you stretch the Suntex to tight on plastic/pvc frames that are on the bottom half of new windows you will not end up with a square frame. I solved this by using two framing squares clamped to the table to hold the plastic/pvc frame straight and level while I was installing the screen. Aluminum screens have a middle brace and do not have this problem. Product is great. You can see out easily from inside, yet private in daytime since you cannot see inside. Great solar product.
