have phifer suntex black out shades in a off white color on the ceiling of our Four Seasons sun room. Over the years they have become dirty and spotted by a leak we had in the ceiling glass panel. We have discovered how they were installed and can remove them. Can they be cleaned? and if so how? any particular product recommended? thank you, carol
Asked by: carolMI
yes they can be cleaned, try using Screen Magic. Screen Magic window screen cleaner works on all types of screens. Bug screens, sliding screen doors and solar window screens of all different colors. No need to drag out the soap and brushes. Instead of spending your time scrubbing screens, use Screen Magic. No need to rinse off the screens with water. Just remove the screen, spray it with Screen Magic and replace it. The screens will look like new. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Screen-Magic-32-oz-Window-Screen-Cleaner-Trigger-Sprayer-SM32T/300075478?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-D28I-Cleaning%7c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxcCEhfer1QIVEpR-Ch29_ABuEAQYAyABEgLimfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

can this be used to rescreen a back patio and is it a privacy screen

Asked by: kim
It provides the same (or better) insect protection but will make the patio darker and the view out will not feel as open. Under some lighting conditions where it is very bright outside it will provide near total privacy but at night it will only be slightly more private than regular screens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Solution for West facing windows in CA The best solution for our summer problems. Our living room has huge windows and it gets really hot that even our a/c cant make it to a comfortable temperature. I installed these covering the entire 3 windows and what a big difference! Its like a miracle! Im not kidding though! Without the solar screen it gets up 95...with Solar screen its 70's. Just giving you a heads up...if you install them yourself, be ready for some strong muscle because since its thicker than normal screen, its quite an exercise to install the screen in the aluminium rods. Also be sure to get 7/16 aluminium thick rod and not 5/16. Trust me on this one! Now im so excited for summer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, very helpful I ordered this to cover a palladiun window above my front door. I lost two trees that used to shade the window and I was getting cooked. It's a heavy fabric, but cut to size easily. I attached a dozen 2" suction cups (purchased from an online auction site) around the perimeter and mounted on the inside of the window. It makes a big difference. It does darken the front hall, but I will take that trade off. I have since ordered a larger roll and will be treating my other windows in the same manner. Mounting on the inside makes them less noticeable from the outside and is easier than mounting in window screen frames.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sun Tek 90. The product was exactly as advertised. The old spline was flat .3125", or 5/16". Was easier to install with flat Pet Spline, which is about the same width but appears to be not quite as thick. Some compensation for the material's extra thickness was helpful. In the top groove, which was just under the ceiling, it was hard to use the spline roller, so I just tapped it in with a concrete chisel. Installation was on the west wide of a lanai, and now with direct sun on it, it's like sitting in the shade. It does a great job of reducing heat buildup and excessive glare. It's a great alternative to putting up a pergola, or lattice, or roller blinds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reduces heat, Increases privacy The screen works as advertised. I changed out one screen and left the original screen in the window next to it for comparison. The window sill of the solar screen was noticeably cooler. The solar screen, itself, was warmer than the other screen. (Makes sense because it was trapping the heat from passing through.) Installation was more difficult than a normal screen because of the thickness of the solar screen. The channel width of the screen frames are relatively consistent and I was using the smallest spline available (1/8"). Seating the spline into the channel was a challenge. The extra effort , however, should pay off this summer. I am changing out all my west windows. Also, the privacy factor is a bonus. I will change out my road side bedroom and livingroom screens for that reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for me I was forced by my HOA to change my screens so I wanted to go with something that would save energy and help with privacy. I got what I wanted with Suntex 90. At night with the light on you cannot see inside my house from the outside.
