Are these for outdoor fixtures?

Asked by: Janice
They've worked fine for me outdoors, near Philadelphia, when they're sheltered from precipitation in fixtures.

100W Equivalent Incandescent A19 Clear Light Bulb (24-Pack) is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 11.

This is about the only '100W' bulb remaining on the market which is 'sparkly', all of the similarly bright 'crystal-cut' bulbs having disappeared. So it serves a purpose. But the bulb has an incredibly short lifespan (about two months at best in dusk-to-dawn usage). So the laws got bulbs to be a bit more miserly in electricity usage, but at the huge expense of buying bulbs much more frequently and incurring the increased labor effort of re-lamping much more often. Not such a bargain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short Life I bought six Philips EcoVantage 72W bulbs to try out in my home because I haven't been happy with the light given off by incandescent alternatives. Of the 6 bulbs, 3 have already failed in just 90 days. This is an extremely high failure rate, and considering the higher cost of the bulb, I'll never recoup any savings at this rate. I was pretty happy with the light given off and the thought of saving money without sacrificing brightness. I would be happy if they lasted longer than 90 days!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short Life I put in three of them in October and two have already failed. I expected better then the "real" bulbs I had in the lamp

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought one today and it burned out in less than 5 minutes Screwed it in and it flashed and burned out in less than 5 minutes. There is some sort of design defect with these bulbs. It appears we aren't the only ones having problems. I suspect this product was 'rushed to market' to meet the need created by the law that is taking incandescent bulbs off the market before adequate quality testing occurred. We will find another product to replace our beloved halogen bulbs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good substitute for banned 100W bulbs, but a lot more expensive. I am using these clear halogens where I used to use the GE Crystal Clear 100 Watt bulbs. They look just as good in the fixtures (exposed bulb) and the quality of light is good. (actually, not as yellow) However, these bulbs are not as bright as the standard 750 hour 120 volt 100 watt incandescents. The traditional bulbs were 1720 lumens light output, and these are only 1490 lumens output - which is about the same as the "double life" incandescents. Plus side is that they are rated for 250 hours more life than the 750 hour traditional bulbs, but they are rated 500 hours less life than the 1500 hour bulbs they are truly the equivalent of. In any case, they are the only game in town other than LED if you want instant, bright light. And if you have fixtures where the bulb is visible, a clear bulb with A19 shape (not curly Q, or alien stun gun LED) is the only way to go. I ordered the 24 pack because it is a lot less expensive to purchase them in bulk than to buy them two at a time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really bright light This bulb is even brighter than I expected, it seems brighter than the 100W bulb it replaced. I am really happy since this bulb is in my old-fashioned kitchen, so I really need to see well. Also I have it on a dimmer in there to save energy when I don't need a super-bright light. Our congress won't let me use a 100W bulb anymore. Fluorescent bulbs aren't dimmable and have mercury in them so you can't put them in the trash or you poison the environment (but people stick them in the trash anyway, thanks Congress for the poison.) This is my first day, so I can't say if it will have a long life, but so far I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from clear bulbs create a classic look in pendant fixtures I bought these bulbs for the garage after I gave it a makeover and new fixtures. Due to low a low ceiling, the options were fluorescent tubes or do something with short drop lights/pendants. With two drop pendants and these bulbs, they greatly enhance the space giving the garage good bright lighting with maximum coverage. The frosted pendant shades combined with the clear bulb, make for a classic look either on or off.
