Questions & Answers

Are these dimmable?

I see the picture of the box indicates non-dimmable, but there's nothing in the specifications that says one way or the other.

Why would 14.5W energy use = the energy use of a regular 100W incandscent bulb?

A bullet point states "Energy used: 14.5-Watt (equivalent to a 100-Watt standard incandescent light bulb)". In fact, the energy used by the LED is just 14.5% of a 100 Watt incandscent bulb (the whole reason to switch bulbs)? The product statement implies either the LED would also use 100 Watts of energy or that the 100 Watt incandescent uses 14.5 Watts, yes? My point? Converting to LED is expensive, and often times the product offering is narrower than traditional incandescent bulbs. This in turn requires more research when making an LED purchase decision which can be confusing for many (this is where I noticed your confusing comparison. So, is the LED 14.5 Watt bulb equal in terms of lighting when replacing a 100 Watt incandescent? Yes (splitting hairs about lumens aside). Is the energy used equivalent? No. This is where clarification is needed IMHO. If I have made a mistake, please accept my apologies, otherwise please reword the product information. Thank you.

LEDs produce nearly no heat. A normal incandescent bulb expends nearly 80% of its energy consumption as heat with the remainder actually being light

It's quite bright and really does emit a soft white. CRI wasn't a consideration as it's situated in a stairwell with no decorations and low contrast colors for the carpets, walls, and ceilings. Also, the base and bulb doesn't get hot/warm to the touch, even after a couple hours of sustained use. And there is no discernible buzzing, or other noise from the LED, which would be quite noticeable in this echoing stairwell.

Two for $5 is a really good deal. These Philips bulbs are a very normal color of warm white, and look just like incandescents. The bulb shape isn't too weird like some LED brands and they're nice and bright. All of the lights in my house are LEDs, so I get a low electric bill without having to install solar. Maybe someday! But these bulbs are great and so are the 60W equivalent versions, which you can get four for $5. I've been using Philips LED bulbs for over two years now and I haven't seen one burn out yet.

I believe, unlike a traditional bulb, these would survive being dropped. That being said, these bulbs are expensive and so I hope not to drop any of them. Previous LED bulbs made by other manufacturers have not lasted as long as claimed so I did not save anything by using them. I date the bulbs and so I will know how long they last. Hopefully these bulbs from Phillips will last as long as claimed. I also wish they would price a single bulb at half the cost of the price of 2 in a package so I would not have to buy 2 when I need only 1.

I picked up on these LED bulbs essentially for their yellowish-natural-light that we are so used to in our homes. Earlier I had tried the 3,000K color temperature bulbs but found those to be rather bluish for my taste: I thence tried these Philips bulbs with a color temperature of 2700K - Soft White and these emitted the "perfect color light" for my lounge and study. Indeed coming from a good brand I expect these to last as long as the company claims but for now I can't comment conclusively on the longevity. It's however definite that I'll be buying more of these.

These are not anywhere near the light output of the Sylvania or Utilitech equivalent... but the price is lower too. It would be nice if light bulb companies were held to an actual standard with advertised light output. Because of the lower cost I tried these, and installed beside the 100w Utilitech (Lowes store brand) and these are not as bright... I have found that the Utilitech's don't work well with dimmers though. The Sylvania is my go-to but they are the 2 times the cost and not twice as bright.

A bit pricey but my experience with LED replacements for incandescent, especially in a Kitchen where the lights remain on quite a bit, is very Positive. My first experience was replacing two incandescent's nearly every month almost to the day and they were two lamps at 60 or 75 watts. I replaced them with LED's which were more of a daylight bright bluish hue but they worked fine. These LED's were 100 watt using 22 watts of power each so my consumption was cut in half or more. The first set lasted nearly two years, no complaints from me. I installed the replacements in the Kitchen and in 3 outdoor lights where a 100 watt incandescent lamp remained on most of the night. This set for the Kitchen is two 100 watt equivalent soft white that uses 13 watts each so do the math and figure the savings there even over the first LED's. Very satisfied and have begun to change out these throughout my house as needed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from LED bulb temp I am VERY frustrated that Home Depot and the other DIY store don't carry the variety of LED wattages in all of the color temps . . . most are soft white (way too yellow) and daylight (way too blue). I prefer the warm white and bright white color temps. They're very hard to find, especially in the higher wattage/lumens.
