Answer:
Those clamps are harp extenders. This bulb is too big for many lamps. You place those clamps/clips where the harp would normally attach to the lamp and then attach the harp to those clamps. The bulb works fine this way, but I would recommend in the future getting a smaller sized (same wattage) 3-way bulg.

Answer:
We wanted to add, the harp is the metal clip that helps to support the lamp shade. The Clips are used to extend the harp of the table lamp in case the bulb does not fit within the fixture.
How to Use: The harp should be removed and then use the plastic clips to make the harp longer.

Answer:
The two small white clips/clamps that came with the Philips 11-23-34 Watts (50-100-150W) Soft White (2700K) 3 way CFL Light Bulb (E*) can be used to extend the harp on the lamp since the bulb is very large.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fits lamps with shade supports at the socket This is the first CFL that fits my swivel floor lamp. See low-light picture. It is a tight fit - but it works. Also, this is the first spiral CFL I've seen that has two tubes - similar to the 3-way incandescent it replaces. January 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phillips 3 way soft white cfl Great product!! Long life, bright light, easy on eyes. Will buy again. November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Light; A Little Pricey This Phillips CFL with its 50-100-150W equivalent rating provides more light than any of the lower output 3-way LED bulbs that are currently available. Most customers will need the harp (shade support) extensions that Phillips includes with the bulb to raise the harp enough to accommodate the dual tube construction of the bulb. For lamps with a heavy shade, customers may need to purchase a taller harp. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Philips 3 way CFL bulb Light bulb works to expectations with all three levels functioning. May 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Barely got it in the existing harp, but I did. I am pleased with the bulb March 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good bulb One position on the 3-way doesn't work but I think that is a function of the lamp. The bulb is very large but did fit my lamp harp, just barely. Shipping was a problem - it was mailed in a small box which was partially squashed, with only one sheet of bubble wrap as cushioning. However, the bulb was happily undamaged. January 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 50/100/150 watt cfl bulb The only problem I encountered was that I needed to special order this size bulb as it was not on the shelf on the store. March 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great price and fast shipping Shipping was fast and free because I bought six bulbs. The price was very competitive too. I have been unsuccessfully searching for very bright CFLs at numerous stores, including Home Depot. I regret that many stores don't carry them. Especially since the only bright LEDs I can find are floodlights or spotlights and bright incandescent lights have been outlawed. October 28, 2014
