Answer:
Could be various reasons. The 1.8 years is based on 3 hours a day not 10-12. Any vibration would cause it to burn out, a surge in electricity.

Answer:
You can leave it on as long as you want, however, the bulb will only last on average 2000 hours- so naturally, if you leave it on for 10 hours a day, that means it will only last 200 days.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by stinks got one and it lasted about 35 hours!..would not buy another! April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Fantastic I use this bulb for my plants that I bring indoors over the winter. And my plants seem to really love the light this bulb puts off because they seem to really grow fast and healthy. My Plumeria's and my Birds of Paradise, Elephant ear plants and all kinds of other plants and starts that I grow over the winter. My plants really take off under these bulbs. I would recommend these bulbs for anyone wanting to keep your plants healthy over the winter. January 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Hammock I Purchased was Fantastic! I finally decided to add a hammock to my back yard. This hammock is so comfortable, stylish, and plenty big to relax in. I don't have any trees so I put in 2 - 6"x6"x8' posts with quickcrete to hold the hammock. It was an easy project with many hours of enjoyment to follow. April 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for seedlings! On a whim, I decided to try out this light for germinating my tomato seeds. Lo and behold! They shot up straight and tall! As a gardening newbie, I was also surprised at how my other plants leaned in toward the light, so I bought another one for my sprouts (most of which are tomatoes). Rather than leaning toward the window, they are now growing straight up and sprouting their true leaves! Great product!! The only down side is the possibility of overheating. I use a generic desk lamp and floor lamp from target. The desk lamp has a cap and turns off just fine, but the floor lamp on/off switch is metal, and burned my fingers due to the high heat of the bulb (I keep it on 8-12 hrs/day). Just be careful when turning it on/off if the lamp has a metal switch. Overall, it is a great product and I can't wait to see how it will fair in flowering my tomatoes. May 6, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for starting seedlings. I used this bulb paired with a clamp light in a propagation tent (plastic closet). My seedlings germinated very quickly, the bulb generates a lot of heat. March 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is very cost effective This light is wry bright and mimics natural light much more so than some fluorescent tubes I have used. I currently have carnivorous plants and rooting san pedro cacti under this light. Great but! It also emits a great deal of heat! January 14, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Need for my Winter Plant Growing Cycle Have not seen the Plant Growing CFL's being carried by Home Depot at the store, they can be ordered on-line. These fit the bill for my Plant Care during the Winter. January 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bright idea Amazing, you screw it in and everything gets brighter! What a marvelous invention... February 5, 2014
