Does equivalent-halogen mean this is the same as a halogen bulb?

I have always steered away from halogen bulbs due to the heat they produce. The bulb will be used in a motion-detection security light outdoors. Per the security light packaging, you can use a 120-watt par-38 halogen or an LED. LED's are wonderful but too expensive so I'd prefer a bulb with characteristics that are closer to an incandescent. Will this bulb work for me?

Answer:
Yes, this is an improved version of the original 120W halogen PAR38.
The footnote indicates "Compared to a 120 watt Halogen PAR38 rated at 1740 lumens, this 83 watt Halogen PAR38 provides 1750 lumens and saves 31% energy."
This should work for the security light, but please note that due to the heat that radiates from this bulb, a minimum distance of 2 ft is required between the bulb and combustible

Answer:
All of our filament consumer products (Incandescent and Halogen) are dimmable and therefore compatible with non-dimmable and dimmable switches. This technology does not have the same switch compatibility issues as CFLi or LED. They generally more universal.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value I liked buying the bulk pack and saving a few bucks. Bulb seems nice and bright too. April 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Energy savings with performance sacrifice Floodlight bulbs provide excellent energy savings, but provide spotlight performance when placed in recessed "can-type" fixtures. This results in shadows and/or dark spots within room compared to lighting provided by the older incandescent R-type floodlights. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by indoor/outdoor flood lights Bulbs were just as advertised, very happy with purchase October 6, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average Product Three bulbs in my order came broken...not a super big deal because Home Depot is usually pretty good about returns. But it is still an inconvenience. I have had a little trouble with a few of them already burning out so I will have to come back to re-review when I follow up with the warranty process. Decent buy for the price...but you get what you pay for. February 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bright light I use these in the parking lot in an apt complex. They produce a brighter light then the 90 and 100 watt bulbs these replace and use less electricity. June 16, 2013
