Answer: 
I have seen LED replacements offered but all of them cost over $200, and are not available through distribution. Some of them are listed around $720 or so.
The result is that unless the cost of changing the bulb is very great the payback on the price may not be adequate to justify the expense.

Are you sure this product has a 20,000 hour life as advertised on the site? I have been to the store and they all state 10,000 hour life.

In short, no the 175-Watt Metal Halide Light Bulb will not work in a mercury vapor fixture. All High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs work this way, they have to have the same bulb in order for them to operate.
On the packaging, you'll notice the label that states: Use only for ANSI ballast type....
This means while the bulb will fit, it won't light up at all. You have to have the exact Read More

This means while the bulb will fit, it won't light up at all. You have to have the exact ballast (which means same light) as what you have now, a mercury vapor bulb to go into the mercury vapor fixture.
