Customer Questions & Answers

What is the voltage required to the mercury vapor lighting fixture?

Asked by: Tom
Here are the voltage requirements for that lamp, under “Operating and Electrical” section of the product page: http://www.usa.lighting.philips.com/prof/conventional-lamps/high-intensity-discharge-lamps/hpl-high-pressure-mercury/mercury-vapor-standard/928484900091_NA/product. It must be in line with these voltage requirements for the lamp. This lamp should be used with ballast ANSI code H39

Matching Ballast - How do I know?

This lamp indicates it works only with an ANSI ballast H39. The bulb I am replacing is a also 175w mercury vapor HID like this one. I asked the gentleman in the store how I could tell if the ballast was the correct one. He said that if the bulb I removed was in fact a 175w mercury vapor bulb than the ballast installed would would be compatible. In other words, He said all I needed to know was the type of bulb and the wattage. True?
Asked by: PatrickP
He's right to an extent....as long as the bulb you are replacing is a 175 watt mercury vapor with the same base, by default it would be an ANSI H39 ballast. Luckily, this is one of the most common HID fixtures out there today, so just like he said, if the bulb and wattage matches up, you'll be fine. Joseph

ballast

is this bulb self ballasted. will this bulb work with this light? the 200 watt incandescent clamp light?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Damien, this 200 watt incandescent clamp light is compatible with only incandescent light bulbs. The 175-Watt ED28 Mercury Vapor HID bulb is not self-ballasted, and requires a ballast to operate the lamp. It would be compatible with any fixture with a mogul base socket, and the 175-Watt mercury vapor ballast. It also must have enough room to house an ED28 bulb shape, which is about 3.5" in diameter. Please let the Philips Lighting team know if you have any further questions!
