Rated 4 out of 5Â by JFKJr Works as expected in bathroom recessed lighting
I have these installed in my bathroom recessed lighting. I think I remember my contractor saying my city or state of California required that fluorescent lighting be used in bathrooms. They work as expected, but lasted only about 2 years the last time around, with normal usage. I thought CFL was supposed to last a lot longer. I have the old style nicer looking non-cfl recessed lights all over the house that have lasted much longer and are dimmable, so don't believe the hype about long life of CFLs.

Brought old bulb with me but couldn't match it with any bulb in the store. Even department employee had difficulty. Ended up buying something we hoped was "close". Hard to rate quality of a light bulb: It worked when I installed it. Contact me in a few years.........

Rated 1 out of 5Â by RetiredHomeowner Quality really poor; bulb life is poor they do work.
I have a Panasonic Ventilator Fan/Light combo in each of two bathrooms; they each use two of these CFLs. One bathroom hardly gets used, so the life is fairly reasonable. The master bathroom probably sees about one and a half hours use per day. That works out to a little over 500 hours usage per year, and these things barely last two years!
When the first bulb failed two weeks ago, I called Philips and wound up talking to their tech support department. That person told me that the bulb wasn't rated for use in a fan.
Since that is the only type that Home Depot had in stock, I wound up purchasing one anyway.
Two weeks later the second bulb in the unit failed. Both bulbs had only about two years of usage on them.
The replacement was cracked (I didn't notice it when I first opened the package), so it was a no-go from the start. When I returned it and complained about the overall quality, the store manager was really nice, and he not only refunded the money for the one I returned, but he gave me a new one as a promo. That one didn't have a crack, but it didn't work any way, and I tried it in both of my fixtures in known good sockets.
Moral of the story: Don't use Philips 18w PL-C bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by nugent1021 brighter than the original 3500k panasonics
I've only had these bulbs a week, to replace the original bulbs in a panasonic vent fan/light combo. These bulbs are much brighter than the 3500k panasonic bulbs. I really like these. I hope they last longer than what others have said.
