yes it is an incandescent bulb the dimmer is fine
make sure you get a dimmer for incandescents and not cfl or led

Can i wrap aluminum foil around silver sides of bulb, dimming it? Will it get hot & reduce life span?

Just want the red dim tip to shine reflect heat. Not care about the silver sides which gives off too much brightness. But will wrapping the sides make bulb too hot and reduce life span?

im not sure if that legal or not as this is an open bulb without a lenz. water splashing on it will cause it to rupture
