Answer:
Not sure, but I believe regular fluorescent tubes are not dimmable. Certain CFLs are dimmable due to their special ballast.

Answer:
Hello James, thank you for your question. These bulbs are not dimmable. There are many dimmable compact fluorescent options that are offered by Philips on HomeDepot.com, though. If you provide more information on the applications that you would like to use these in, the Philips Lighting team can suggest alternatives for you.

Answer:
For the older lamp, the CRI was 70 and current lamp is 89. From this perspective, the color will look better. The color temperature and color points will be relatively similar but due to the CRI difference, the two lamps will look differently. Finally, the lumen output of the current lamp is 2600 so this effect will have an impact on the overall look of the older lamp versus the new lamp.

How do I know if I need a T8 or T12, the old bulb doesn't say. It says F40 Universal DLX 40 Watt Cool White. I measured it and it is about 46 inches.

Answer:
HiT8orT12lost,
Look at your old bulb, T12's are the standard bulb used for many years in florescent fixtures. T8's are the newer style of bulb and are smaller in diameter than a T12.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice light. I really like the color of the light these give. It brightens our kitchen and makes everything look better. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inferior Quality Replaced the bulbs in my garage shop lights with these. First, they are nowhere near as bright as the GE bulbs I have been using. Second, they buzz. I tried switching the bulb with the GE bulb right next to it and the buzzing followed the Philips bulb so it isn't my fixture. Third, as far as having a 24,000 hour life - ridiculous. These bulbs last 6 months or so, and that's turning them on for only a minute or two most days. Occasionally, the lights will be on longer if I'm working in the garage. I'll never buy these bulbs again. Most of the good reviews that are posted here are not from people who have used these bulbs for a few months. I'm going back to GE. March 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very good product Basic, inexpensive, old style product. Works great. October 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, good price Cool white is suitable for kitchen. Bought 4 to replace the ones that are old and worn out in the light fixture. The "Alto" line claims to contain less mercury than other products. Please be sure to recycle the old tubes, and Home Depot takes them. February 15, 2014
