Answer:
Installation is simple. Weight is less than a pound per tube. These are T-12 size tubes, thin tubes are usually T-8. Packages of 1 and 2 are sold in store.

Since THD already answered about the weight of the bulbs, I will omit that question. Usually a package of 10 bulbs DOES NOT include installation instructions. IF you are buying 10 bulbs at once, then the assumption is you know how to change them. SAFETY FIRST : IF you have any qualms about standing on a ladder, or working at ceiling height, it is better to call someone who knows lights to help. IS the task difficult. FOR the DIY types no, for us average types a little. FIRST is preparation. Have another lamp plugged into a different circuit, than the kitchen light is connected to. TURN OFF the KITCHEN LAMPS at the FUSE or CircuitBREAKER panel. HAVE a look at the light fixture, there should be some tabs or clamps that let the plastic LENS slide out (They are designed to slide one way into the fixture to give some clearance, and then to allow the bulbs to be exposed. ONCE EXPOSED, the old bulbs need to be taken out by GRASPING the ENDS of the bulb and giving them a 1/4 TURN either direction to turn the pins from connected, to VERTICAL for removal. ONCE Turned , they will lower a bit, and depending on the space, allow their removal from the sockets. AFTER they are out, you can replace the bulbs and TURN 1/4 TURN to 'SET' the pins (Make sure it is 1/4 turn, as some will click, but that is the initial detent in the socket, turn a little bit more to 'Lock' the pins in place. ONCE BOTH LAMPS are in, test the lamps by turning power back on, check lamps, then turn power OFF Again to install the Plastic LENS. Hope this helps. Read Less

The bulbs are not difficult to replace. They are somewhat thin, they're light in weight and fragile. I recommend you wear safety glasses as a precaution.
You first need to make sure your step ladder or ladder (which ever you have handy) is sturdy. Depending on the type of fixture you have, you need to remove the cover or frame to get to the bulbs. Once you uncover the bulbs, then gently turn/twist one

You first need to make sure your step ladder or ladder (which ever you have handy) is sturdy. Depending on the type of fixture you have, you need to remove the cover or frame to get to the bulbs. Once you uncover the bulbs, then gently turn/twist one either counter clockwise or clockwise about half a turn and you will feel it come loose. Remove the first bulb and then do the same with the second bulb. take a few seconds to study the fixture and the bulb so that you can have a clear view of how to install the new ones.
Install the new bulbs like you removed the old ones and replace the covers.
As far as I know, the bulbs are not being phased out but that would be question for Home Depot. I just purchased a box of ten because I have several lights throughout my house.

Answer:
If you want the best spectrum to grow plants indoors, look at the spectrum of light they use on the ISS, it's mostly red and blue light, very specific wavelengths, and those are available in LED and possibly Fluorescent tubes as well, which is what I came here looking for when I thought I'd help answer a question, too. :)

Answer:
The lamps are not considered full spectrum (no true definition of this term, by the way). Any artificial light helps with plant growth but this lamp is not designed (or proven) for it.
