Customer Questions & Answers

What's the CRI of this bulb?

It's printed clearly on the box/packaging it comes in, but no photo of this Philips 5000K T12 bulb in it's packaging on this website.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, these used to be the best "looking" bulbs you could buy, with a CRI of 92 - and 5000K is not too "warm" - yellow - or "cool" - blue. However, for the last year or two when you get to the store you find Philips has changed their spec and this is now a 90 CRI bulb. Still way better for your kitchen or foyer or laundry room than a CRI 75 shop light, but 90 CRI bulbs are available at many more places than the 92 CRI bulbs were - and I haven't found any 92 CRI bulbs recently anywhere at any price.

is this the Philips Fluorescent Light Bulb 40 watt - 48" - T12 - Medium Bi-Pin (G13) Base - 5,000K - Colortone 50 - Natural Sunshine
Asked by: doggster
Hello and thank you for your question. While this is not the same as the Colortone light bulb, it matches other specifications and has a high CRI of 87.

Customer Reviews

4 ft. T12 40-Watt Natural Supreme Linear Fluorescent Light Bulb (10-Pack) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from These CRI 90 bulbs are the only flourescent bulbs I buy anymore With a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 90, these bulbs are far superior in a nice kitchen or even laundry room to anything else you can purchase (without buying a true specialty bulb (CRI of 95-98) that might cost $10-$15/per bulb instead of $40 for 10 of these 4' bulbs). And 5000K is a good color temperature - not too yellow and not too white - these bulbs produce a really natural looking light that will display colors and décor like you've never seen before under fluorescent light. In a garage suit yourself, maybe you don't need the CRI of 90, but how much can you save on "worse" looking lighting bulbs - $1.00/bulb? Anyway, unless you just don't care and want a super cheap bulb, try a box of these and you won't be disappointed. (Note: GE doesn't disclose their CRI anymore, so I don't buy their bulbs.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst tube ever I bought the ten pack for $40.00 that had a LAST 7 YEARS" written on the package. a year and a half latter all ten had burned out. I called Philips about the warranty and they told me not to turn them on and off so much. they told me they would send me a check for $12.00. not bad for a $40.00 investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The packaging claims "lasts 7 years", failed after 16 months. The 2 bulbs I bought in April 2012 were on for less than about 1000 hours when they failed, compared to the 24000 hour life printed on the packaging. Bulbs are dead as of August 2013, after just 16 months, much less than the 7-year life also printed on the packaging.
