400w. This is calculated by:
1) 400w rating each lamp
2) multiply the number of lamps (1) x 400w = 400w
400w / 1,000 = 0.4kwatts
3) power x time = energy consumption
Then, multiply:
0.4kw x 1 hour operating = 0.4kw hours or 400w per hour

Hi i223a, this is different than a normal light socket.
You need a 600 volt rated Mogul socket for this product. The ballast needs to be a ANSI model M59.
No special wiring needed according to the Phillips Tech personal.

Once the light was inserted for an electrical test, before mounting on to the pole, the Philips 400 Watt ED28 lite up as expected. The light Bulb has plenty of brightness and a good bang for the buck!
