These Phillips bulbs LIGHT UP IMMEDIATELY and REMAIN COOL even after hours of operation. They are FULLY DIMMABLE, and provide a light that's NOT HARSH like some LED's. We use them in the bathrooms (all recessed lighting), living rooms (recessed lighting and table lamps), and the kitchen (all recessed lighting). Because they dim, they WORK WELL WITH REMOTE SWITCHING and timing systems such as our X10 programmable system. The construction is very solid; the bulbs are heavier than standard bulbs, and they are rated to last 22 years with average use. Finally, our electricity bill has gone down noticeably since changing out some 40 incandescent bulbs (18 of them these 40W equivalent bulbs) for LED three months ago. So, we plan to take them with us if we move within the next 10-12 years.

Don't buy this garbage. Home Depot sent me broken light bulbs, I cut myself when the bulb was removed from the package because it was broken, and they blamed their manufacturer (Phiips), and Philips refused to exchange the item, after they initially said they would. The item ships directly from Philips. Do not buy. Philips is a horrible manufacturer - they do not stand behind their products.

These bulbs produce a pleasant light. They are a little shorter than the comparable Cree and thus do not extend from our light fixtures which I like. I also prefer their appearance to the Cree's gear style heat sink (though it's not that big of a deal because most of us aren't staring into light fixtures).
My only disappointment with these bulbs was that they did not solve the buzzing problem that I had with Cree bulbs on a dimmer. These bulbs do not buzz as loud as the Cree but it's still audible!

other than bulb shape, this is a great bulb. We need to get used to the fact that with LEDs, which are flat, that bulbs will be other shapes.
Is the bulb this shape to defuse the light ?
Wish other LEDs would come down in price.

I have had 5 Phillips HUE lights in my bedroom for over a year, controlled by our iPhones. They are wonderful and flawless, but at $60 a bulb - very expensive. I looked at every LED bulb at Home Depot, up to 60 watt equivalent, however, if you read all of the comments, every one has issues: buzzes, not really dimmable over a wide range, early failures, color temperature, breaks, etc. This bulb is constructed in the same package and looks the same as my $60 bulbs. They only put out about 60 lumens per watt, but that is exactly what I want as an engineer, a de-rated package that runs cool and that will last a long time. You can put these in the same lamp as incandescent bulbs and they will track as they dim. Be aware - there are two different color temperatures that look alike when purchasing: soft white and daylight.
