If you have a small space to fit the bulb into, the pins will be inserted in the socket, reducing the overall height of the bulb as installed in the fixture. I used this bulb for a fiber optic Christmas tree where the light engine is a small module that slides out of the base of the tree stand. Since it is in a confined space, a small fan blows air to keep the halogen bulb cool. After inserting the bulb in the socket, a retaining ring held the bulb in place, ensuring that vibrations from the motorized color wheel did not loosen the bulb from the socket. The retaining ring was fastened by two small screws into the slide module which was part of the light engine.
I would ensure that the current bulb in your application matched the MR16 (which is the syle of pins used) , the wattage (50 Watts), and the voltage (12 Volts). As long as these three values are the same, you should have no problems with replacement bulbs. Read Less

Answer:
This lamp is not rated for food safety. It is made of glass, so if the outer bulb breaks, particles of extremely hot glass could be discharged into the fixture and/or the surrounding environment

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Deal that I Couldn't Find Elsewhere My fiber optic Christmas tree uses these bulbs so right before Christmas when the bulb burned out, I had to replace it. I went to the store and had the burned out bulb with me to double check to make sure I had the right bulb. Sure enough, they had the right bulb there. It was about $6 or so for one bulb or about $13 for three bulbs. I bought three as these bulbs run hot and even with a fan they tend to burn out easily. I figured if I bought 3, I'd probably never have to replace them again. So the bulb lasted the rest of the season and now I have 2 spares. A few days later I was checking the W***mart big blue box store to check their prices and they didn't even carry the bulb! I'm glad I went to Home Depot as they had what I needed at a fair price. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great bulbs These bulbs are life changing! Much brighter than my old bulbs and the design is beautiful. They look like big diamonds... Very good price at Home Depot December 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by very expensive, poor longevity, but easy to change I have aprox 200 fixtures that take six of these bulbs. I find that they don't last long. 2,000 hours is not long when your residents never turn off the light. Also the fixture has a transformer that reduces the voltage from 110 to 12. The 50 watt bulb even if only one or two installed will cause the transformer to overheat and shut down the fixture. The 20 watt bulbs seem to work just fine, However this was a very expensive lesson with extreme cost of the product and the time I spent figuring out why I was experiencing the problem, running to the store to spend lots more money and time to back track and swap out all the 50's for 20's January 19, 2014
