Customer Questions & Answers

is it dimmable?

Asked by: Ira
Halogen bulbs are dimmable, CFLs not dimmable. Dimming the halogen bulb may affect the loading of the transformer (this is a 12V bulb and does not run directly on 110V source). It may also effect the service life of the bulb, but I have no personal experience with that.

HOW MANY VOLTS?

Asked by: RICHARD
These actually use 12 volts. In a home application the light fixture has a transformer to go from 120V to 12V

The electric company is saying these light bulb throughout my house are causing a high electric use. How many KwH does one of these 50-watt bulbs use.

I want to figure out the costs per month for all these light fixtures.
Asked by: wally5256
50 watts for one hour is 1/20th of a kilowatt hour = .05 kWh If your electric is around 11 cents a kilowatt hour then 11 cents x .05 kWh = .55 cent , which is a little over a 1/2 a penny per hour If your electric is on the high end , say at 16 cents then: 16 cents x .05 kWh = .80 cents , which is closing in on a penny an hour.

I suppose these work fine, but they throw a lot of light out of the back and it makes streaks on the ceiling which are distracting. Maybe its just a personal preference rather than a flaw, but we really can't use these in a museum in environment. Encase in a can light, they are probably fine.

Might not be an issue for some but for me it makes a difference. Wish they would be at least consistent with manufacturing.

Unfortunately these bulbs seem to burn out every 4 or 5 months, so it is helpful to have some back ups on hand to avoid a trip to Home Depot.
