Customer Questions & Answers

Is this a 90 degree flood?

Asked by: Fred
Hello, Thank you for asking. This Philips LED R20 reflector is not a 90 degree beam angle. However, many Philips LED BR30s are however, 90 degrees.

Can an incandescent dimmer switch be used to dim these LED bulbs?

I am wondering if I can use my existing dimmer switch to dim these new LED type bulbs or do I need to replace the dimmer switch too?
Asked by: Tripster
Hello, These LED bulbs should work with most incandescent dimmer switches. However Incandescent dimmer switches are different in the level of technology than the newer dimmer switches.

50W Equivalent Soft White R20 Dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb (4-Pack) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best R20 LED bulb out in the market today I installed 5 of these in my kitchen. They give out a color very close to the 50W Halogen's they are replacing. At my usage level/energy price, these will pay for themselves in less than 2 years. My application does not require dimming. I tested these for dimming as well and they are fine except I would caution against any LED dimming light as when dimmed LED's do not "glow" like a Halogen/incandescent light. Therefore they give the feeling of a poorly lit room and pretty ugly. You will not be happy with most (if not all) LED dimming light in a residential application.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dims well. Generally good replacement for the incandescent bulb it replaced - there are few available for R20 bulbs. Dims well. Less yellow than incandescent when dimmed. Light is a bit harsher (less diffused) than the incandescent, If you look at the bulb when lit, a wide dark edge is visible. Packaging is excessive, hard to open, and eco-unfriendly plastic clamshell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Disappointed! After looking for over 6 months, reading reviews, and test a clunker LED no-name, I got my first 4 pack almost a month ago. I had seen some really bad reviews of LED lights and didn't want to get burned while spending this big bunch of cash. The first batch was so great I immediatetly ordered another 8 and just installed them. All 12 kitchen ceiling cans now have these. They provide excellent light, the same dimming as the hallogens they replaced. There is no hum, buzz, or any noise. We're running these off of cheapo dimmers that came with the house (they look like the old 60's light switches). The light looks white when you look at the bulb, compared to the yellow of the halogens they replaced and they give the same quality of light as the hallogens. I think they give even more light. With electricity and all going up, these will help us keep bills down as the 12 lights went from using 600 watts to 96 full blast. Can't imagine needing more than an 8-watt for kitchen ceiling cans. These are well made and well designed. I gave a slight ding to the value because of the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Investment I love these bulbs, capacity to dim down to a warm glow in my track lighting or bright enough to do surgery!! Incandescent bulbs felt like I was getting a sun tan, these are cool. Initial investment scary, but over time I will recapture that money. I am replacing outside flood lights with LED's hoping for same great results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent flood for kitchen track lighting I switched our 8 halogen bulbs in our kitchen's track lighting for this Philips bulb after a great deal of research. This bulb is truly a flood and projects a warm soft light, while so many others are spots. Dimming was essential for our application and after a great deal of research I located a Lutron - model 153 dimmer switch that does a nice job. Very pleased with the new lightning as well as only using 64 watts instead of 320.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for what I Needed Great product. Works as well as advertised. My only problem is with the packaging. For a product that is green, the overuse of paper and plastic might just negate any reduce in the carbon footprint. Philips, no one is going to walk out of the store, and its not a regular bulb, dropping it is not going to break any glass.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Liked the EcoSmart BR20 better I originally purchased 4 of the EcoSmart BR20 LED bulbs for a Calablanca ceiling fan. They are 3000k, so a bit "whiter" than I would like. So I then purchased these Philips BR20 since they are 2700k, just like the Philips A19 LED bulbs. I do like the 2700k of this Philips BR20 more than the 3000k EcoSmart, but the problem is that they are too directional and do not fill the room with light, instead of being a spotlight. Because of this, I went back to using the EcoSmart since they fill the room better. There is a 2700k version, but is made by EcoSmart's parent company Lighting Science Group, and has to be special ordered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great bulb this bulb is an excellent color. It is dimable with my new dimmer switch from Home Depot (make sure to get the one identified for LED's). The bulb was expensive but works. The bulbs arrived quickly and were well packaged.
