Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Bulb...Dims Wonderfully I took a gamble on a case of these bulbs as I have a dimmer in a theater room that would not work with CFL's. When I saw that Philips had finally come out with this bulb I jumped at the chance even though they are currently about $25/bulb. From the first minute I turned the bulbs on, I knew I made the right decision. In fact, they worked so well I went out and bought two more dimmers and installed them the same night just so we could enjoy the energy savings. The final cost will be insignificant on this installation as the bulb will probably last 20 years. I estimate an annual savings of about $20 in this room so the payback is less than two years. That is the kind of investment we can all make...and it lowers the burden on the grid! December 12, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for our remodeled home, very bright and modern look! We have 99% LED bulbs in our house, only lights we can't replace are the stupid Hampton Bay ceiling fan lights which are controlled by remotes and must use incandescent (unless someone knows of a trick?). We tried to replace with LED candelabra size, but they just flicker, so we're not at 100% LED! We love these lights in the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. We use the 3000K in the other rooms as 5000K would be too bright. Our electric bill is so low since the remodel, almost 50% less, but that is also due to the all new appliances too. There are no downside to getting LEDs, it used to be expensive, but they'll pay for themselves, lasting 20+ years! I have mostly these Philips, but some Cree 5000K as well, in general they're all comparable. And guess what? You don't have to buy the special LED dimmers like most people will tell you, which cost twice as much, I installed some of them with regular dimmers and they work even better than the expensive counter-part with no or minimal humming sounds. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great LED bulb for current products This new Philips 60W LED bulb is the second generation of the A19 bulb from them, not counting the far more expensive L-prize bulb. What's nice about this bulb? First, the appearance unlit is nice. No more yellow plastic surfaces. The bulb has been smoothed so the entire outside is smooth with no ridges or visible heat sinks. Second, the half second delay when turning on is gone. The original yellow 60W took a half second to come on after you flipped the switch. Now it's instantaneous. And unlike CFLs, it comes on at full brightness. Third, the lighting pattern is excellent and much like a standard incandescent bulb. This will work in an application where you need light in all directions. Disadvantages? A couple. First, this bulb is not Energy Star rated, and that is because the current LED Energy Star specification does not include a 5000K color temperature bulb (5000K is daylight, not warm white). In a few months the new specification will be released which allows 5000K to be used. So if you need Energy Star for rebates, get the warm white version of this bulb (2700K). Second, the price is good for a high quality LED bulb (under $25) but in a year or two we'll see a lot of bulbs under $15. Keep that in mind when figuring your cost savings over time. Disclaimer - I work in the LED lighting industry, though not for Philips. I know LED products well and consider this one as one of the best, and the company as one of the best. January 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Light These bulbs produce a bright, sun-like light that is exactly what I wanted. I've installed them in adapters for the weird two prong GU24 bulbs used by some new lamps. These bulbs' low wattage is within the limits set by the sockets but produce more and better light than the bulbs supplied with the lamps. I'm unable to evaluate how well these bulbs work with a dimmer since my lamps don't use one. My only grumble is the cost of these expensive bulbs. March 6, 2014
