Yes it can and will function fine if it is the only bulb in the fixture. If there are more than one, you must turn the bulbs so the light sensors face out of the fixture and not towards the other bulb or the light from one will turn off the other lamp. Also, these lamps will turn on in a shady area even if not truly dark outside.

Yes, I had mine installed in an outside light fixture on the wall. The base pointed up. It only lasted 3 months (1 year warranty) and wasn't reliable with ON/OFF cycles. I live in Michigan and we are overcast most of the time in winter. The light would stay on too long after dawn.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! This is an excellent product! I was trying to work with my security company for lighting that I could activate from my phone to provide the lighting security I need. One rep was recommending a system that cost hundreds of dollars; I was not happy with that and found it cumbersome. Another one came in, recommended this product and I am so thankful and very happy with the product. I wish it could be purchased in the store;thus I wouldn't have to order online. Bottom line! I love it! August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works like advertised. I was looking for a reliable photocell that I could plug a normal bulb into but couldn't find any. I read the reviews of several but none had any better than 3 stars and many less than that. I wanted a dusk to dawn light by my garage to replace the existing bulbs that work on a traditional manual on/off switch so when away, it looks like someone's home. I found these online, good reviews, priced reasonable and from a recognizable brand. Bought 2 to replace standard bulbs on both sides of the garage. So far, I'm happy with the bulbs. They work as advertised, on at dusk and off at dawn. They come on within 10 seconds of each other. Hopefully they last awhile. June 11, 2016
