For use with most 6 in. recessed housings, this light features a white integrated trim and includes a medium base socket adapter. Easily convert your standard 6 in. incandescent recessed housing into an energy efficient LED flood light, as the medium base socket allows you to replace the bulb and trim of your 6 in. recessed housings. Should work fine as you do not need to do anything to the can fixtures. You remove the heat shield, screw the adapter in and push the light into the canister.

This sounds like the same project I completed. I have six in a pool room. I had it done in 20 minutes. Remove the bulb, existing trim and reflector. Screw in the new lite socket and push the new lite into position. There are two spring steel sheet metal pieces that retain it in place. You may have to flex the spring steel one way or another to get it in easily.

Without seeing nor knowing what your 'old style' can lights are, the only surefire way to determine if these retrofit LED lights will work is to install at least one first.
Luckily, most housings old and new are fairly straight forward and universal. Try it out, and it should work for you without issues.

I would say no with the caveat if the fixture you are replacing is in an awkward place to get at. It can be difficult to work on a fixture in the ceiling from a ladder. Also if you have big hands it can be awkward to work in a tight place.

Answer:
Being 'difficult' to install would be relative to how your skill level and familiarity with lighting would be.
With that said, you will need to place this in a recessed housing, if you don't have one already.
The installation would be simple, if you already have one installed in the ceiling. If not, you'd need to have one provided, so that this would fit in it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good photos and comments make good sales! Photos and comments helped me dive-in and try this product. My biggest concern in buying the 65W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) Recessed Retrofit Down LED Light (4-Pack) was installation-Could I extract the 30 year old downlight housing and preserve the socket and electrical connection in the kitchen? Would the LED fixture fit into my 6" diameter downlight holes ? And would it fit flush against the ceiling? Took some tries and strength to extract the old housing, but the new product fit fine. I do wonder how to remove and fit a halo ring so it fits more flush, but for now it looks good and is very bright. January 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A really good investment. These retrofit lights are well designed and constructed. They really provide a lot more light than I expected. They also are quite attractive. January 6, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice upgrade These were generally easy to install but I also experience some of the same issues of other buyers. I found the trim to be just a hair too small. It needed to be a good 6 3/4-7" diameter to cover up the hole cut for the can. Also, the pressure fitting used to hold the light in place was effective but not perfect, hence 4 stars. Biggest issue with the pressure fitting was the can would move when pushing the new light in place. I ended up using the trim from the previous can to fill the gap of issue one. With the small relief still showing from the pressure fitting, the trim from the old light and new made a double trim edge accentuating the lack of super-flush fit. It looks like there was a new model on the shelf when I bought these on clearance for $10 each. For that price, I took the $120 upgrade at $60 and called it a day. November 1, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install; questionable warranty I purchased 8 of these lights during a one day sale for a great price. The install was super easy. I was done in about 20 minutes. My only concern is that the lights are supposed to last 36 years but they are only warrantied for one year. I've had an LED light fail after 3 years. The manufacturer (CREO) replaced the light for free, no questions asked. I would hope that Phillips would do the same should one of these lights fail. The warranty is the only reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating. August 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy install!! I replaced all of the high hats in my house with these LEDs. Very happy with the purchase. The install was very easy less than 5 mins per light. Its nice how the trim and light fit against ceiling and seal out air/and bugs coming from attic. They dim nicely with my existing dimmers and no warm up time like with the other lamps. September 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install, bright lights. While this would seem to be perfect, easy to install, good price and light, the "grippers" do not seat evenly in the ceiling cans. One corner on each will not seat flush to the ceiling. The metal ceiling light cans in the ceiling, prevent the new light grippers from a tight fit on all sides. 1 of the 4 grippers always has to bend in, so that 1 gripper not hold tight to the ceiling. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very good price very nice lighting, simple to install, easy transition, has dimmer capabilities. September 22, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Retrofit Lighting These worked well in our situation, they were a little difficult at first to get to fit up flush with the ceiling, but after I got the hang of it they slid in place. They put off a good light. September 22, 2015
