Questions & Answers

Is the difference between this bulb and the discontinue 10.5 W noticeable?

I am not sure why Philips makes 3 different wattage (9.5, 10.5, 13) br 30 65 w equivalent bulbs. I have 8 of the 10.5 bulbs and my contractors is going to put in 4 more cans and Home Depot discontinued the 10.5 W and I need to know if can get this bulb, or if I should pay twice the price on ebay.
Asked by: MikeN
I own both these (9.5w) bulbs and the older (13w) DimTone bulbs. I do notice a difference when I run them side by side especially when they are dimmed -- but I wouldn't say that one is any better than the other. The older 13W DimTones seem a little brighter in my opinion but not by much and they also have a wider dim range. At my dimmers lowest setting the old 13W DimTones dim way lower than these new 9.5w bulbs. The new bulbs are also about half the weight for some reason. Even so, I really don't think any of this makes one bulb better than the other. These new WarmGlow bulbs are a heck of a lot cheaper which definitely makes them win out in my opinion. Could this bulb be used outdoors?

Asked by: JFXR
It is damp rated, which means it can be used in outdoor where not directly exposed to the elements. For example a safe location is in a recessed can under a soffit.

Does the BR30 Dimmable Warm Glow LED Flood Light Bulb dim with a standard/traditional dimmer switch?

Asked by: Reasonable
It will depend on the dimmer you have that will determine how effective it will dim your LED bulbs, or even at all. Newer dimmers, like the CL type by Lutron, will work for all dimmable bulbs. Try it out on your existing dimmer first, and then determine if a new one is needed. Joseph

Customer Reviews

65W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) BR30 Dimmable Warm Glow LED Flood Light Bulb (4-Pack) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm dimming is the holy grail of LED lighting I love LED lighting. Sure the bulbs are more expensive but it more than pays for itself in the long run, plus with a life of 10+ years you have the added convenience of not worrying about constantly changing burnt out bulbs in your house. The problem with conventional LED lighting is dimming. The good old conventional incandescent bulbs used to dim to a warm, pleasant yellow/orange color. Even though most LED bulbs these days also support dimming, it's not very pretty. LED bulbs tend to dim to a harsh, clinical blue/green/white color that isn't very pleasant on the eye. That is where these bulbs come in. When dimmed they turn a yellow/orange similar to incandescent lighting. This is critical for areas like a TV room or bedroom where you want to be able to create that relaxing atmosphere that other LED bulbs will not give you. Originally Phillips had a DimTone line and they were around $30 per bulb (ouch!) This new WarmGlow line replaces that and is about half the price ($16 per bulb at the time of this writing.) This 4-pack is even better value and brings the price down to around $10 per bulb which is in the same range as other non-warm dimming LED bulbs. This makes it a no brainer, if you want 65W LED indoor flood lighting then these bulbs are 100% the ones to get. I see no reason to even consider any other line of bulbs. (Of course, all pricing I referred to was correct at the time of this writing which was late 2014.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent color match to 65 W incandescent bulb. Excellent bulb color and brightness. The tech used to alter color to 2200K when dimming giving a more yellow color does a great job looking like an incandescent bulb. I returned other LED bulbs as my spouse does not like very white lights. My biggest problem is the hum. When used with standard switch there is no hum. I have not found a compatible dimmer that does not cause hum. Have used recommended Lutron switch with continued hum.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too much buzzing noise The warm glow is great for dimming. But after putting up a bunch of these I heard a humming noise in the background. I checked each bulb and unfortunately all of them were making the noise. Together it was unbearable so I'm returning these and will continue to search for something with warm glow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lovely color but also has buzz when dimmed I really like the color range of these but they all have a quiet buzz when dimmed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good Color is very nice! Feeling great about the fact that these bulbs use only a fraction of electricity compared to conventional bulbs. I don't experience any buzzing like some people, since I don't use a dimmer. Also, love the fact that they light right up and they don't "warm up" like CFL bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Light Although expensive when you need twelve of them, these bulbs are providing excellent light in our basement family room, are dimmable, and if they last as promised, will be here long after we sell this home. They don't qualify as "Energy Star" rated for some reason, so no rebate from the utility company.
Date published: 2014-08-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Dimmable LED Available After testing 10-12 LED flood bulbs for a newly finished basement including brands like Sylvania, GE Reveal, Feit, Cree, EcoSmart, Samsung and more, this was by far the best dimmable bulb I could find. Others would dim partially, but never give the low-light ambiance required in a theatre room for that perfect balance of being able to see your snacks but not be distracted from the movie screen. These bulbs dim through nearly 100%, almost turning off before the glow quits. Great natural warm glow to replicate an incandescent - can hardly tell the difference. Bought these on sale for a great price, though still a bit pricier than budget brands. Worth every penny spent on 20+ of these bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time and $$ saver. I have installed over 300 of these bulbs. At the newer low price of about $11/bulb, the realized savings for me were almost instant. First, you can imagine how often I had to change incandescent bulbs. The time saving alone has been worth it. The energy savings has also been noticeable as the college students we lease to leave on the lights most of the time. They look nice, the color is accurate, no problems with multiple types of dimmers, and they don't break when I accidentally drop one....... yes it happens.
