The most blue in the white/blue range of dusk-to-dawn lighting is mercury vapor (MV), probably what you seek. A MV fixture can be retro-fitted with a special high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp, but not the other way around; in other words, you cannot put a MV bulb into an HPS fixture. You can still buy MV fixtures and Home Depot still carries some MV replacement lamps, but I understand that manufacturing of MV lighting has ended for environmental reasons. Another possibility is switching to an incandescent fixture rated for 150 watts or more and fitting it with a self-ballasted MV lamp, known as an incandescent MV; they are most blue at startup, then become blue-white. Of these, there are 2 types, one shaped like an MV or HPS bulb and one shaped like an ordinary light bulb (or, at least, what was ordinary, until the replacement CFL--compact flurorescent light); light from the HID-shaped incandescent MV is as blue as regular MV, but the variety with a traditional shape is a rather white blue-white after startup. MV bulbs are very durable, often lasting a decade or more, but they are not as energy efficient. Read Less

Answer:
This light gives off an Amber light and casts no shadows. If you want white/blue light, I recommend a quartz or maybe even a flourescent D to D. The flourescent will be a little better saving on the electric being used.

Answer:
Hi Sandy, this particular bulb produces a yellow-like color. If you are able to provide the ANSI code of your current fixture or bulb, the Philips Lighting team can direct you to a compatible bulb that will produce a white/bluish color.

Answer:
No, it is not directly compatible because a special HID ballast needs to be installed in order for it to function.
