Questions & Answers

Rated for wet location?

Is this item rated for wet location, like above a shower or near a shower in the bathroom?
Asked by: Jill
The box states the following "Do not use where directly exposed to water". Looking at the design I would say they are ok in the bathroom but I wouldn't personally install directly over the shower.

Our existing light cans leak air - hot in summer and cold in winter. Does this product seal air leaks? Also, is it 75 watt equivalent & dimmable?

Asked by: Sir
I would say the design of this light seals better than older recessed lights but I wouldn't say it is air tight. When I installed mine, I ran a bead of caulk between the fixture and the drywall to better seal the opening. Mine are fairly airtight with the light in place now. Philips should have included a rubber or foam gasket around the lip and it would have probably been a very good seal. I would definitely say this light is a 75w equivalent. These lights seemed to have lit my kitchen up a lot better than the older incandescent bulbs they replaced. I have some on a dimmer switch and they do work (dimmable).
