Questions & Answers

can they be used in enclosed glass covered ceiling lights?

we have two glass covered ceiling lights in our hall which use 2 bulbs each.. looking to go down in voltage but i'm not sure if we're allowed to use these in enclosed fixtures or not.. i figured since they put off less heat they would be better than the 60w bulbs i have in there now.. our fan kits came with CFL bulbs and they have glass enclosed bowls as well so it would be ok right?

Dimmable?

I'm considering purchasing quite a few CFL 75W equivalent soft white bulbs but need to know if these bulbs will function in a lamp with a dimmable feature. If these won't work, does anyone have a suggestion for another bulb that will?

Generally, this type of spiral CFL light bulb works well and I would recommend them for virtually any use an incandescent bulb would be used for. However, I put mu CFL bulb in a spot light attached to my wood lathe. The lather shook so much from my initial roughing cuts that the light bulb lost its connection to the electricity and flickered on and off. This bulb worked fine when I put it in a more normal stationary spot light. The shaking spot light works just fine with a regular old incandescent bulb.

These are a fine alternative to LEDs for the price point. In colder areas, like the garage in winter, there is a noticeable warm up time before full brightness. In other areas, it's less pronounced.
