A 4' bulb has two pins on each end. Will the pins of a T8 bulb fit in a fixture made for T12 bulbs. I'll be using a ballast which is rated for either T8 or T12.
Asked by: HandymanRon
The pin spacing and diameter are the same on T8 and T12 bulbs. The difference is in the glass portion (T8 = 1" diameter, T12 = 1 1/2" diameter).

do these ballast fit all t-12 4' lamps

is there a certain way to hook up these ballast. such as ground
Asked by: atacharles
It worked for 2 bulbs for 4' T12 bulbs in my kitchen fixture. I don't know if there are other type of 4' T12 bulbs it wouldn't work with. It seems to be for the most common installations/fixtures.

Centium 58/72-Watt 2-Lamp T12 3 ft. or 4 ft. Rapid Start High Frequency Electronic Fluorescent Replacement Ballast is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replacement for Tar Magnetic ballasts I replaced 6 tar magnetic ballasts with these electronic ballasts in a country church. The power to the church must be pretty unstable; because the old ballasts are starting to go quite regularly now. The church was built in the mid 80's with about 40 T12 double lamp surface mount fixtures. I have yet to have a failed electronic ballast from Home Depot. I am sticking with 34w T12 48" bulbs as I have no desire or budget to convert the church to better fixtures.

I'm an average DIYer and electrical projects have to be either straight-forward or I won't touch them. Of course safety first. Turn off the electric at the circuit breaker before you remove the old ballast and keep it off until after you've installed the new one. It's simpler and makes sense, trust me, to remove the ballast and base/lampholders (4 total - the things that the bulbs plug into) while still connected with the wires, except you'll have to disconnect the ground wires (mine had two - black and white) from the old ballast. Then once the old ballast and base/lampholder are removed, pull out each colored wire from the base/lampholder connected to the old ballast. Next insert the wires from the new ballast into the base/lampholder one at a time, paying attention to the colors that go into the base/lampholder. Do this for each of the four base/lampholders with one colored wire at a time. Then connect the new ballast back to the light fixture, slide in the base/lampholders back where they belong, replace the ballast cover, insert the bulbs and finally the fixture cover. That's it. Fifteen to twenty minutes at most.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO far so good! After replacing all the tubes in my office the old magnetic ballast failed on one fixture. Bought and installed this ballast. Easy to install. Notice this fixture now lights instantly with absolutely no flicker - now I will replace the others one by one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install and it Works The hardest part about this is install is buying it. It uses the small size wires, the same screw holder, is the same size but lots lighter and colors of wires are easy to figure out. Excellent product and I make lots of $$ replacing the old 3 pound ones with these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, Simple Installation I wanted to replace the entire light fixture but was unable to find a replacement the same length. I therefore decided to just change the ballast. This replacement ballast is lighter weight but is the same length and has an identical screw pattern as the original. Took only about five minutes to remove and then rewire the replacement. Lights come on instantly and no more flicker.
