It will be laying on the shower floor in my basement. When it rains hard the street floods and the water backups up in my shower through the floor drain.

Answer:
You can adjust the water level somewhat by how low you attach the float to the pump cable. I've got mine set to about six inches.

Hello mamsr,
The turn on/off point of the float switch is going to be determined primarily by the distance between the anchor point and the float.
The shorter this distance the quicker a change in water level will cause the float switch to engage, the longer the distance the greater the change in water level.

Hello mamsr,
The turn on/off point of the float switch is going to be determined primarily by the distance between the anchor point and the float.
The shorter this distance the quicker a change in water level will cause the float switch to engage, the longer the distance the greater the change in water level.
A good rule of thumb when placing the float switch is to loosely mount it, connect the plug to the pump, and maneuver the float by hand to find the on/off point. Adjust the length as needed to get the desired on/off range. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works, simple but effective I combined this switch with a utility pump to recycle water from my washer to the grass in the back yard. The washer drains into a large plastic trash can and when the water level rises, the pump sends it out through a hose to the back yard. The water bill is lower, the grass is greener and. I'm saving every driop. December 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by used in reverse these switches are normally used to drain a well. As the water rises, the switch rises and kicks on the pump. we needed the switch to shut our pump off when the cister was full. we took the wire from the switch, layed it on the side of the float and put tie wraps around the float to hold the wire in place. the switch is now up-side-down and works in reverse. a good way to shut the pump off when the tank is full. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GOOD VALUE THIS PRODUCT PERFORMS AS ADVERTISED, MY ONLY ISSUE WAS THE LACK OF A MOUNTING BRACKET, OTHERWISE VERY GOOD, AND IS PRICED MUCH LESS THAN OTHER UNITS. May 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works like it should This device has saved my tilapia several times by shutting off the pump before tank level gets too low June 3, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The product does not compare to similar products. Sliding switch inside the float does not repeat accurately. Other tether floats I have used have a liquid type switch and are very accurate every cycle. Because of the sliding switch the trip of the switch is erratic. It works fine if you are not concerned with fluctuating level. October 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product, much more reasonably priced than other product options. The switch was easily installed and is functioning perfectly. February 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This switch works great in my water catchment system. The switch allows me to pump a lot more water than the switch on the pu Great product and very tough in my environment. I am using the switch in a sump that catches rain run off and I must pump this water up to a holding tank. September 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for the price. Great for the price and easy to install. I ordered online had shipped to store received in a couple days. I installed the part in less then ten minutes. Haven't had a problem with sump pump since. May 21, 2013
