Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice compromise for door replacement I wanted to restore a door, removed decades ago, to a passage between my entrance hall and dining area. Building from scratch requires advanced woodworking skills that I don’t have and a commissioned build is prohibitively expensive. So I bought the 30x80 size and added 2 and ¼ inches at the bottom to fit the frame height. I didn’t use the track hardware but separated the two panels, added to the bottom rails, and mortised for the hinges to lie flush to attach them to the steel door jamb. The stiles are much too marrow for a typical cylinder mechanism so I used magnetic catches at the top on the inside. Dummy levers were added for appearance and I used a brand of hardware that offers roses in the 1.5in diameter. (Standard door knob roses are much too wide to fit.) “Ease of installation” I put at a 3 only because I had to give it some rating, but it’s not accurate since my adaptation didn’t use the manufacturer’s hardware and they never intended them to be used like this. I’m very pleased with the solid, sturdy feel and appearance of the doors. One positive shipping note – that might at first seem trivial – is that the doors arrived with plastic film on both sides of each glass pane. This saves a lot of work in not having to painstakingly tape the edges on 40 sides of glass before staining or painting. But most importantly the glass is protected and stabilized during the installation handling. I’m working alone and I’m not Wonder Woman and much appreciated this during all the cumbersome handling. If anyone might be thinking of doing the same thing, the advice I would give is to examine the specs and plan out the project – including precisely what hardware you will use - before making a purchase. There is no lock rail. I would strongly advise against any deep mortising of the stiles they are very narrow and doing so would seriously compromise their integrity – remember that they have to support all of those glass panes. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Superior Quality and Construction This door requires sanding with 220 grit paper. It is a long process due to number of stiles, but ultimately rewarding in a superior paint or stain finish. Plastic film over glass make painting or staining easy. Have a second person to make hanging easier. September 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by French bifold doors Great product. Heavy duty. Used at opposite end of large room that has French doors. Sets off the room by having the bifold French doors at opposite end. September 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very pricey and very soft wood I didn't use them as bifold doors but rather as an architectural detail on either side of a large entryway from main hallway into living room, think sidelights without a door between them. They are bare wood and needed to be prepped and sanded like you would with any bare wood project. I found the wood scratches very easily, so I primed, sanded, primed, sanded, painted, sanded, painted, light sanding final top coat. So all in all there are five coats of paint, 2 primer and 3 of the final color. They look beautiful for what I used them for however the film covering the glass so painting is easier were a real bear to get off x 40! I say I would recommend this product as it is what I needed and if I could have found old used one at a salvage I would have preferred that but I couldn't. I also bought French doors for the entryway from living room into dining room and these bifolds were almost the same price as the prehung French doors. So I stand by they are a bit pricey all things considered. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful door I'm a woman in my late 50's and I installed this myself. Took me nearly 2 hours because I didn't quite know what I was doing and I wanted it perfect, and the door is well-built and heavy, but my point is it can be done. I love the quality of the door, the protective plastic over the glass panels to make painting easier, and the light that now comes thru from my laundry room. I'm super happy with this purchase. It replaced a cheap solid bifold door, so now this area looks so much more dramatic. Love it! June 21, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just ok Bought 2 sets of these doors and 2 sets of narrower doors to make 8 total panels. Unhinged them and re-paired them together to make 2 sets of 4 double folding doors for 2 doorways. 3 panels were warped (not flat when laid down on the floor) so we had to work to fix. Even within 1 panel, it seems different types of pine were used for the door (sides are separate pieces from the tops, bottom panels and the pane dividers), so when finishing/staining them, they absorbed the stain differently. Took a lot of work to "even" them out by varying amounts of stain used. It was a TON of work. Been working on them a month and still not done. If you were painting them it would be much easier. Would not buy again due to amount of work, even though the price was good. October 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Door For the Price The door is very well made, well packaged, and looks great when hung. We bought this to use as a door to our commode to replace a "saloon door." We stained it, put "rice paper" film on the glass panes, and added oriental style pulls and it came out great. One thing I will say is that the wood did not take the stain well on our first try. We then tested several mixtures as wood conditioner, including Minwax's commercial brand. But what worked best for us was a mix of vegetable oil and white vinegar... the wood took the stain beautifully. Overall, very happy with this purchase. August 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by door was as expected Needed a "french door" (minimize size of door extending in open position) to close off a "sun room" from kitchen, size of opening is ~37x81; this door was best option for the price. Actual door of this product is just less than the 36x80.5 advertized at ~35.5x78.5. With 3/8" x 1/2" foam seal, this adequately provides a good seal door to let in light but keep out the cold/heat (sun room is not centrally conditioned). Would recommend it if you have similar need, just be aware of the little "extra" needed to enclose an opening that measures 36x80. March 30, 2013
