Answer:
HI newby, this pellet grill only uses wood pellets as fuel. Though, increasing cooking temperature and reducing cooking time is the best way to reduce the intensity of the smoke flavor.
Keep in mind that using different blends of pellet will produce different results to suit your taste. We recommend trying an Apple blend of pellet if you'd like something more subtle.

Answer:
After about 6 minutes of startup you'll see a roaring flame in the burn pot. From here you can expect to reach 200F in about 10 minutes or take it to the maximum of 500F in about 30 minutes.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Well built grill! We love it! Thanks depot and boss! Today is baby backs! July 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage Temp spikes way too high. have to babysit and open the door to lower temp. Traegers have the same problem. Returned mine and bought a Green Mountain grill. Couldn't be happier September 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pellet Grill We are very happy with the grill. I just wished your stores carried the pellets so that we didn't have to order them online. Great purchase! April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase I love this smoker. It was easy to assemble and I had it up and running in an hour. Once up to temperature it stays steady and a pork shoulder comes out wonderfully smoked and tender. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best grill I've ever owned!! Great quality, easy to use and the smoke flavor...... incredible! August 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Grill Master in the making I used a hand truck/dolly to unload and move the grill because it is heavy. Assembly took about 90 minutes and instructions were pretty accurate except for the grease tray and diffuser which I have the upgraded version not pictured in the manual. The smoke stack gasket was tore so I called Pit Boss service and a friendly fellow promised to send a replacement right away and he explained how to use the upgraded grease tray and diffuser. The gasket took well over 3 weeks to arrive so I am glade it wasn't a major part. I have cooked ribs, chops, beer can chicken, pizza, winglets, burgers, hot dogs, sausages, steaks, and salmon using a variety of wood flavors. I am now the grill master and the family want me to grill almost everyday. Food really does taste better smoked with wood. I decided to go with Pit Boss instead of Traeger because you get more for the same price (a bottom shelf & removable side tray, I guess the bottle opener is Ok if you are a beer drinker). You can also use other brand pellets in the Pit Boss and if you use anything other than Traeger pellets in their grill, you void the warranty. HD only carries Traeger pellets and you can order Home Comfort now. I ordered Pit Boss Pellets from Target (lowest price found). I have tried Traeger's Hickory & Mesquite, and Pit Boss' Hickory, Apple, and Competition Blend; they all work and taste just fine. I use a wireless digital thermometer and it works great with the different meats. The pellets grill don't produce a lot of ash but you need a vacuum to make cleaning easy. I purchased a Wet/Dry Shop Vac that does a great job; it is a must have for me. August 6, 2015
