Customer Questions & Answers

What temperature can the glass block mortar be used? Cold may be an issue

Asked by: Em
You will need to check with the manufacturer of the glass block mortar. It should also be listed on the bag. Normally, cementitious materials require an air temperature of at least 50 degrees.

can I buy a custom Argus glass block window with vent from home depot?

I currently have Argus style glass block windows for my basement and I need another one with a vent also. Can home depot sell a premade Argus style glass block window with vent. I know they sell other styles premade currently.
Asked by: vin
The Argus Premiere Series (4" thick) glass blocks are not available in a premade vented GuardWise window (3" thick blocks). The GuardWise windows are available in the Decora, IceScapes or Delphi pattern blocks. A vented window with the Argus pattern would need to be built block by block on site.

Glass Block -Argus by Pittsburgh Corning

I need only three 6x6 inch blocks (Argus by Pittsburgh Corning). Can I just buy three? Are they available at a store near San Francisco?
Asked by: Anonymous
The 6x6x4 size is not normally a stocked item and so would need to be purchased in even cases of 12/case.

Customer Reviews

6 in. x 6 in. x 4 in. Argus Glass Block 12/CA is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better packing needed The look and quality of the glass blocks are great. My only concern is the packaging done by manufacturer. Every box I received had several blocks with significant chips of glass broken off. Most were so severe that the damaged blocks could not be used. Home Depot is great about taking back boxes with broken blocks, but be sure to order plenty of extras if you want to keep your project on schedule. Amazing to me that an established company like Pittsburg Corning hasn't figured out a way to pack the glass to keep it from being broken in transit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb product Recently replaced all the house windows with new double pane windows (though Home Depot, using Simonton vinyl windows). However, a 60" H x 8" W clerestory window next to the front door was too narrow for Simonton to fabricate a replacement. The salesman recommended conversion of this window to glass block. 8" W block would have required cutting into the wall, but 6" W could be installed right into the existing frame after removal of original glass and grid bars. Since the window frame was 4" deep, I had to use a 6 x 6 x 4 block, which is available in only two designs, this one and a second one with a wavy pattern. 6 x 6 x 3 blocks, while offering more design choices, would not have been flush with the wall on the inside. I had to buy a dozen blocks, when only ten were needed, but better to have matching spares if something breaks during shipping or installation. A handyman did this job and it looks great.Shipping was superb: FREE, all blocks securely packed and all of them arrived intact. Very pleased with this purchase.
