I noticed the channels are fastened directly to the sill and jambs of a window rough opening so I was wondering about any expansion that may cause the blocks to crack.

Answer:
When installing the channel, install the sides and bottom. Cut the top piece in half lengthwise and install the exterior half of the channel. Once the last row is installed, insert the second half of the channel per instructions on pp 9 & 10 of the ProVantage Installation Instructions or page 13 of the Mortar Installation Instructions.
