CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4 out of 5 by 30 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Super bright, great light output, but be careful of mounting options. Replacing an old florescent light fixture of similar size in my kitchen. I was worried it wouldn't be as bright as the lumen output was slightly less than the lumen output of the current fixture; but WOW is this thing bright. Quite unexpected. The only complaint is that unless you are going to use the hanging installation method you will need the installation bracket which does NOT come with the unit. It is available for a very reasonable $25 from the manufacturer; but it did delay our installation by a few days while it shipped. In hindsight, for a flush ceiling installation where you have access to the installation spot from the attic side, a "hanging" installation where wires are pulled through the ceiling drywall and the light is pulled flush would probably work just fine. If you're crafty enough to do this then save yourself the money and do it that way; otherwise the separate mounting bracket is a must-purchase. Home Depot really should consider carrying this as well. August 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great light. Limited mounting options. The light itself is quite excellent. It produces a nice and bright white color that works quite well in my garage. At the manufacturer rated 4550 lumens, it is equivalent to about six 60w incandescent bulbs. It does not exhibit any buzzing or noise that another reviewer mentioned. Standing directly under it, I could not detect any kind of sound coming from it. However, mounting the light did not go as smoothly as I expected. The fact that this light comes with a 110-300 volt driver means it's designed for both residential and commercial use. However, it is designated by PIXI as a commercial product. This means it does not come with any mounting hardware. All you get in the box is the light itself, a thin instruction booklet that only covers T grid mounting, and 3 wire nuts. Compare with their residential lights, which include a more detailed installation guide, a installation bracket, wire connector, ground wire, 3 wire nuts, 4 junction box screws, 4 toggle bolts, and 4 drywall screws. Their rationale is that commercial contractors will procure their own mounting hardware. Even though I had known that their commercial products do not come with mounting hardware, I figured since this is also designed for residential use (PIXI's 1st dual-use product), they would include the mounting hardware. So imagine my surprise when I opened the box and found no mounting hardware inside. At first glance, there isn't a way to flush mount this light to the ceiling of my garage. There are mounting slots on the back of the light for the bracket, so I thought I would call the manufacturer and request a mounting bracket, thinking perhaps I can buy one for some small cost, or perhaps even get a free one. That turned out to not be the case. The bracket costs significantly more than I expected (homedepot.com does not allow prices in reviews, so call PIXI's tech support for pricing). I complained to the tech support rep that their residential products all come with mounting hardware, and this is clearly designated for residential use as well as commercial. He told me that since this product is so new, they are still tweaking the manufacturing process, so it will probably be another 6 month before mounting hardware will be included in this kit. He offered another option, which is to bend the four tabs at each corner all the way out. Normally you can bend them up at 90 degrees for pendant/hanging mount. Here you would bend them 180 degrees so they stick out about 1/2 inch from the edge of the light. This takes away some of the sleekness factor, as the tabs are visible on the outside, but I did not want to spend significantly more than what I already paid for the light. I also had my heart set on this light. There are other less expensive edge-lit LED luminaires, but none are as sleek as the PIXI. So I ended up mounting it using the tabs (see my pictures). Additional hardware that I had to procure myself: - 4 toggle bolts for ceiling dry wall. I used 3/16" toggler anchors. They are each rated for 238lbs in 1/2" drywall, and the light is only 12.5 lbs, so it's more than enough. Note that the holes on the tabs are 3/16", so anything bigger will not fit. - A piece of 16 gauge wire to used as the ground wire. Connect this to the green screw on the light. Next I made a cardboard template of the light using the box it came in, marking where each mounting hole should be. I used a laser distance measurement device to make sure that the light would not be crooked in reference to the wall. I then used the template to mark hole locations on the ceiling and installed the toggler anchors at those locations. The actual mounting follows next and is a two person job. I had a friend hold the light up while I connected the 3 wires using supplied wire nuts. I then installed the 4 screws into the 4 anchors. Lastly, I painted the tabs the same color as the ceiling to help it blend in. I'll be honest, I'm a perfectionist and I thought the tabs sticking out would really bother me. But so far it hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would. Most of the time I'm not staring up at the light. When the light is lit, it's too bright to notice the small details like the tabs anyway. And when the light is off, the garage is usually too dark to notice the tabs. Enterprising DIYers can probably make some kind of thin trim to go around the light to hide the tabs. But I think I'm just going to leave it as it is. On the plus side, I avoided the frustration of aligning the mounting slots with the bracket that has been the complaint of many PIXI light reviewers. I would definitely recommend this light if you want an energy efficient, bright, long lasting, and sleek looking light for your space. Just be aware of the mounting issues. January 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic light! I bought this light for my garage and I absolutely love it. It's super bright and the color temperature is just right. The light does NOT hum when turned on. The installation was straight forward. My garage is not dry-walled so I affixed the light directly to the rafters (see the picture attached). The only difficulty is that the mounting tabs where painted over so it took a bit of effort to scrape that off before I could bend the tabs out for mounting. February 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ray of Sunshine Light was just what I was looking for to light up our recently remodeled kitchen. Almost too bright but here in North Dakota we need all the light we can get in the Winter. September 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is the future of lighting! After a few months of enjoying 2 of these awesome lights in my kitchen ceiling, I purchased this one and installed it in place of a halogen light strip over my gunsmithing bench. This flat panel led provides plenty of light for these old eyes. It simulates daylight with less shadows. No glare, no buzzing and no heat. I will never have to change another expensive halogen bulb again. Life expectancy of this flat panel LED fixture is approx. 22 years, so I feel it is well worth the money. Already noticed a difference on electric bill. So I expect it will completely pay for itself in a couple years. June 3, 2014
